Those are beautiful saddles but just a little more than I want to spend!

anyone else have a suggestion?

My cousin told me last night that his brother has some kind of Australian saddle that I can try. I am going to give it a whirl!!

Are those the Westernaire saddles made by Ansur?

Indeed it is made by Ansur. I love the dressage models. They fit almost every horse. One saddle... multiple horses.

saddle issues

I know a saddle maker and saddle repair guy that is in the Charlotte, NC area. He has a complete saddle shop and can fix your old saddle or make you a custom fit new one.

His shop is Bishop Custom Saddlery and is in Mount Gilead, NC about 40 min from Charlotte. His name is Ron and his number is 704-244-1055. He can do just about anything with saddles! Good luck!

Thanks Lois! That was so sweet of you.

I have searched on the internet until I think I have seen almost every saddle maker in the world. I couldn't sleep last night thinking about my poor boy

I got up at 4:30 am this morning and started searching for information and then rereading the posts and checking this and that.

I checked out the Skito pads again - and thought - why the heck not? I know that Red hollows out behind his big ole shoulders so I called Skito and spoke to Colleen and Tom. They are over-nighting a special hollow back thingy to me to ride with this weekend. I am going camping with Red this weekend and was worrying about his back until I am going nuts. Hopefully this will work and I can keep my Billy Cook. If it doesn't work I am on to plan B.

I can't wait to go camping - I am making chicken and sausage gumbo and potato salad - a Cajun specialty. We are riding with a trail group and some are camping out too so I am ready to go and hopefully life with will grand!

Anyone using Skito's?

luvs2ride79 uses them and recommends them. Try PMing her?

I really don't think it will help.

A Skito saddle pad will help if the saddle is too wide or sitting too low. It won't help if the saddle is too narrow.

How well does the saddle fit without a Pad? If you put on the saddle without a pad and slowly tighten the girth your horse may tell you it is uncomfortable or where a sore spot is.
If a saddle does not fit, changing pads will not help much, if at all. If it does help it will not be for very long before the problem comes back but maybe in a different spot because now the saddle sits different.
Some places will take a saddle back and exchange it for a different one if size/fit is wrong or for some reason you do not like it. You may take a financial hit though. Some places you can take your horse down and get the saddle fitted and try it out.

I had a saddle fitting nightmare myself. So I feel your pain. My Mare never complained (obvious complaints) she was hurting until it was to late. I ended up spending a fortune on saddle pads and saddles before I found the right combination. Even well after my Mare stopped growing.
I have a couple of saddle pads (expensive ones) that I ended up using to protect my food cooler as I refuse to use them again.

I ended up with a Billy Cook Saddle (which will fit just about any horse where I board at). I also ended up with a Saddleright saddle pad (which I think is great). I am also mega careful on how I saddle my Mare. Making sure saddle, girth, or anything else that comes in contact with my Mare is clean, saddle placement, stretching front legs, tightening girth in stages, making sure girth is tight but not to tight. Even in the middle of a ride I check that saddle is ok and cinch is tight.

Good luck with your search as I really do know how tough it is.
