| Senior Member | Still bum high?
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this but.. My mare is 5 and a half years old and she's still bum high. Is there any chance that she'll grow that inch or two to match it up or will she most likely be stuck like that? She's an APHA will all QH breeding. |

Most of them are done growing height wise around 5 or so, there MIGHT be a chance that she'll grow out of it, but I doubt it.

hmm, don't worry too much. my horse is 6 and has put an atleast an inch on this year, and another one the year before that, he used to be bum high too. i'd would only say he won't catch up if he is seriously bum high, over an inch and a half higher.

i dont do muhc with paints . but at my farm, we had a paint that came to us 4 years old and 15.3 scroney (sp?) and just odly put together. we used her for lessons for 2 years then she kinda got turned out in the field and didnt do much for a year. wen we deicded to start working her again, she was 7 and she had grown from 15.3 to 16.2!!! shes huge now, and so incredibly muscled out. now she is one of those horses that just has natural muscle. her old owner didnt recognize ehr wen he came out to see her. the vet said she should have stoped growing before. but theres always those few horses that just dont folllow the books. dont give up hope!!

My neighbor had a QH gelding that she got when he was 2 years old. She said he was tiny as a 2 year old. She said he kept growing until he was 7 years old and ended up being 16hh! He was huge.

My Appaloosa is 60% QH and she is about 1" higher in the hip. We have to work extra hard to get those hind legs reaching well under her in order to lighten her front end. It's more work, but it's not impossible ETA: She is 8 and hasn't changed in height since 5 years old. I got her at coming 3. She grew 4 inches between 3 and 5! But, she didn't grow at all after that. She filled out a lot and gained more muscle, but didn't gain any height. Here she is from last weekend. ![]() Here's a picture of her from last Febuary. You can see that she "lifts" in front quite a bit when I can get her to really move out, which is hard to do, lol. She's a lazy mare! ![]() ~Barbara
