Angry Still Birth Tax Credit?

While doing my taxes today I've come across the information that if you have a still birth, you can take a tax credit for $150.00

What the HECK!?

WHY? Why would they do that? $150.00?? So, are they saying "sorry you lost your kid, here's a $150.00!" Can you imagine the thought going through a parents head when they see this? You have to attach a copy of the stillbirth certificate to your tax return. Is this supposed to be some sort of consolation? Compensation? $150?!

WHAT THE HECK?

Can anyone shed some light on this???!

Could it possibly be more of a credit towards the hospital bills or something of that nature?

It seems to me that that would be a heartbreaking thing to come cross when filing your taxes after losing a child, especially when you're already looking at the dependents form and remembering that there "should" be a number there. I would be upset and probably a little insulted by it in a vague way...

I'm VERY offended and I've never even been pregnant.

I don't blame you...

I don't know how I would feel, really, having never been there (knock on wood)... I think I would be the kind of person who would be miffed at the "reminder" of the loss and a little put off by the $150 not knowing WHY it's there as a credit. But I guess everyone handles grief a little differently, yeah?

It's a credit to alleviate the cost of all the pre-natal care. My aunt miscarried her first and only child in the fifth month and her accountant said something about this.

And I wouldn't be offended by it in the least. It's there to HELP someone, not hurt their feelings

It is a medical tax credit.

For a full term pregnancy, you have the ability to have the child for a full tax credit for the whole year, as long as the baby is born before Jan 1st. (My sister is a tax credit baby...born RIGHT before the 1st)

how is that not offensive?

It is just a credit to help the parents with the medical costs by giving them a credit.

Without it, they don't get much unless they itemize everything...and even that doesn't come close sometimes to getting anything extra.

Wait a second. I don't understand. Why should I be offended by this?

$150.00 for the loss of your baby. "Sorry, here's $150.00" I dunno, its like saying thats all your loss is worth.

Not saying it should be a higher amount either.....but seriously, what difference is $150.00 gonna really make?
