Stiffness in older pony

Since it has been getting colder my old man has been pretty stiff. He is 23 yrs old. He can get up and down ok. Its just when he is walking that he is stiff. He is not lame, no heat etc. He is not ridden anymore and is out to pasture 24/7. So he does plenty of roaming/walking around.

So I was just wondering what you guys do for your older horses that get stiff in the winter??? There are SOOO many joint supplements out there it makes my head spin. I really don't know what he needs. Please give me your tips and suggestions

MY friend has a 20 year old gelding and she Equinyl GL (spelling?) and it basically has MSM and Glucosamine. She also events this guy Novice level still and he's amazing, so this stuff MUST be working pretty good. I would definitely check with the vet though. Just call, describe what his problems are and then give him suggestions that you thought, like the Equinyl GL. There are also other brands specifically for older horses that are joint supplement because that's what seems to be the issue. And they will msot likely contain Glucosamine. and maybe take him for walks and groom him to get the blood flowing...Hope I helped and good luck!!!!

Cosequin has been proven to get where it's supposed to go, and is really not that expensive when you consider you can find it on Ebay for about $140 for the 1400gm container which is over 400 scoops.

Glucosamine with MSM is by far the best. That combined with daily exercise, even if it is simply hand walking around the property.

I like Cortaflex - it has MSM, Chondrotin and Glucosamine - it seems to be working well for my horse
