![]() | Stiches or no stiches?!?
Sorry i dont have a picture but il try to describe it as well as i can. my gelding tore the skin right by the corner of his mouth(a little above where the bit goes.) its very deep bet there is a piece of skin half almost the size of a quarter half on half off. it happened 2 days ago and iv gone out washing it with warm water and spraying it with derma gel. not washing it with anything strong like bededine(spelling) because hes quite sensitive there. do you think stitches would be a good idea?? i dont want it to make a big scar. |

its hard to tell without pictures. It would probably be a very awkward spot for stitches. It really depends how deep the wound is. Sorry but i can only advise that you consult your vet as soon as you can and get there opinion on the matter. |

If there is a even a question as to stitches or not, I always go on the safe side and go to the vet. Always better to be prepared and right, then wrong. Good luck!

Whether to stitch or not is dependant on the exact nature of the wound. No one here can tell you whether or not it should have been stitched in the first place because we haven't seen it and we aren't DVM's. But with 2 days having passed, it's probably well beyond stitching now unless your DVM were to freshen the edges. The skin flap that is loose (I think that is what you are describing) may need to be removed though to help it heal more cleanly, so it would be a good idea to talk to your vet about it.
