I think they figure that I'm Exaggerating or telling a LIE when I say "this is a WILD MUSTANG, he's NOT trained yet!" They see me or Eric doing something with him and they think, 'yah, uh, huh, Wild, sure...'

At the begining of the clinic, Steve told every single person that Poncho was a wild Mustang who was still in training and being gentled, so it was THEIR responsibility to stay out of OUR way, since we had less 'brakes' then anyone else in the class... He minced no words... "this horse can decide to kill you if he kicks. it is NOT a warning it IS to kill you..." He then went on to say that when someone is working a very green horse it is everyone elses responsibility to keep themselves safe and out of the way if a situation pops up...

Poncho may have been the GREENEST horse at the clinic but he was also one of the best trained and I was one of the FEW who truly had control of their horse at ALL times.

ALL weekend Long people kept asking me, so is he REALLY a Mustang? He isn't REALLY a wild horse is he? Like Steve and I just made up that for a good story??? Oy Veh!

I'm old and crabby, they just tend to annoy me, ROTFLMAO.... Seriously though...If I had a dollar for every person who did a totally bone headed thing this weekend around Poncho after being given very fair warning, I could have paid for the clinic!!!!!! LOL

$350 to be exact!~!! LOL A LOT of stupidity... sigh.... and the SAD part is a large portion of the attendees were people who'd been around horses for many years and were STILL that clueless... THAT is the part that honestly makes me go "huh?" My mom, who is not particularly horse savvy, knows better then what the majority of the people at the clinic knew about the dangers of a horses hindquarters.

People that have been around horses for years, but never a dangerous horse, are more dangerous than people that haven't been around horses. The people that haven't been around them think you have to be that cautious with all of them. People that have been around them mistakenly think they've 'seen it all' and in reality they haven't.

Actually Dawn, you hit the head of the nail dead on!! That's exactly the problem.. If people have ONLY ever been around Dead broke, bomb proof horses, they just become complacent and don't THINK befor they ACT... People who've not been around a lot of horses or, like me, were always working with horses to GET them to the point of being bomb proof so they could be sold to other people, KNOW that a horse is alot bigger and stronger then a human and that if they KICK it isn't going to tickle!

But I have seriously noticed that with Reno. Her and my mom get along wonderfully. If Reno so much as twitches a muscle funny or breathes really deep, my mom's like half way across the barn before you can blink, lol. Anyone else, they're still standing there like "what?".
