Step by Step Polo Wrapping (with two styles!)

Haltergirl and I collaborated to make this thread, so there are two styles represented.

Ok this is my version:
Ok here we go...

First start off with the velcro rolled to the inside of the roll. Then make a triangle like this:

Then you wrap around once

Then you flip the triangle down and anchor it with another roll

Then continue wrapping down overlapping about every 2/3s or so, you need to have plenty to get back to the top though. So longer legs=less overlapping, short legs=more overlapping

Then hook the underside of the fetlock, not a lot just some. This is a terrible pic, but its hard when you can't get far enough to take a decent pic, if only I had 8ft long arms.
Notice that I didn't wrap all the way to the bottem then hook it, I did it earlier, its fine if you leave a small gap because you will cover it back up with the wrapping going back up.

Then we wrap back up this time overlapping a little less.

Here is the finished product. It would be ideal if I finished on the outside, and its all in your spacing. Also my inverted "V" is a little off center, which is ok if its a little off, not a lot

and the front view

Ok thats all. Just make sure you wrap always going to the back and put pressure on the front of the leg, don't pull forward to tighten. Also you want then not tight but "firm" or an equivalant word.

My mom showed my how to do this, and if you are not sure after this article talk to someone who knows how and have them show you because it would be terrible if you did it too tight/loose and your horse got hurt.

And now my instructions (from Grooming To Win) and Haltergirl_88's pictures)

1. Start the bandage at the edge of the tendon on the outside of the leg, wrapping counterclockwise on the left legs and clockwise on the right.

2. Wrap the bandage one and a half times around to anchor it, then begin wrapping downward, using even and fairly firm pressure. Do NOT pull as tightly as when wrapping a standing bandage because there is no padding to compress.

3. Most of the pressure should be applied backward against the shin instead of pulling forward against the tendons. Overlap each wrap about half the width of the bandage.

4. At the ankle, keep the front edge of the bandage high, above the bottom of the fetlock joint. Drop the bandage down and under the back of the fetlock joint and then back up in the front. This will form an inverted V at the front of the ankle, giving room for the fetlock joint and pastern to flex.

5. Continue wrapping back up the leg, keeping the wraps parallel to the ground and the tension even and moderately firm. Wrap up to the bottom of the knee or hock.

6. Wrap back down, with a little less tension, over the previous wraps. Fasten the Velcro closure on the outside of the leg, never over the tendon or on the insde.

7. For extra security, the closure can be reinforced with a strip of elastic adhesive tape. Do not use a nonelastic tape, and do not pull the tape tightly enough to indent the bandage.

Good job guys.

I have a question though... is it okay to start the wrap on the inside of the leg, rather than the outside like you both did? I have always started on the inside and you got me to thinking, is it okay?

I do #2. Any reason not to up-down-up after anchoring? It ends in the same place...

Heya, I don't use polo wraps much, but when I have they had padding underneath, like gamgee. They were used for when we went away as a team and had to yard or stable our horses (who were normally paddocked), to stop their legs filling etc.

I was wondering, what do you use them for and how come you don't use padding?
Thanks,
Kiwi Pony

If you look closely at the picture you will see mine do start on the inside, but the directions that were added say outside
