Question Steep croup?

I've been told many times that my horse has a steep croup
see ----->
but what does this mean for a horse? Like, is it good, is it bad, if either, why? Also, can it go away with proper muscling? Cause it really seems like its starting to get less steep with more work.

mine does too, but it is slowly covering up with lots of work. i get her to trot over poles, hill work etc. but i haven't noticed any problems with her. some people called her goose rumped.

these are after like a month, so not much difference

Toby does indeed have a VERY steep croup. You look at that angle basically from the top of the rump, at the sacro-illiac joint, that "bump" up there, to the point of the butt. Toby's is VERY steep. Is he part draft? Part QH? A steeper croup like that is common - supposed to give more pushing power, more ability to tuck the hiney under.

Most of Toby's is his conformation. I say that because of how he's standing out with his hind legs, and it's still steep. A croup can appear to be steep if the horse has his hind legs tucked under, which is some of the picture of the first one of Baby up there. Injuries to the SI joint can cause a croup to appear steeper than it is. Work and physical therapy can help that issue, and muscling in general can fill in the butt muscles a bit, lessening the illusion. But the angles still measure that they measure, so that's what you have to look at when comparing before/after or horse to horse.

He's QH/Morgan. So its a good thing? Well, not a good thing but not necessarily a bad thing? He does have amazing power from back there, can go and go all day and is almost never on the forhand it seems like and usually tracks up pretty good unless he's being lazy.

Thats probably a bad pic, heres another one where he's standing more normal. This is after about a month I think:
and then this is about a month after that one
ehh maybe it hasn't really changed......

That is indeed a very steep croup. In general I think it is a matter of preference, but that is probably the most extreme example I've seen! I don't think that you will change it much with exersize.
