We had them floated two months ago. He needed it BAD. Yeah, I still love him. He'd loads of fun to ride. I weigh about 100 so 45 minute tops joy rides are fun.

Good for you for posting an update and taking him! I'm so proud of you, even if I don't know you. You just changed the world for one horse! Keep them coming!!!

That one horse has changed MY world. He's such a character and he's been my funnest [and oldest] to train so far. We've found out that he jumps virtually anything and LOVES doing it...so at the end of the week, when we're done refreshing his mind with boring saddle stuff, we let him take a break and spend 30 minutes or so casually jumping barrels, fallen logs, etc.

Here is Redi, as of yesterday: ![]() My friend came over this weekend to go on a trail ride. It was a blast. She just recently got a Spotted Saddle gelding for her mom. We were talking it over and he does gait [either that or I can magically sit out a "trot" without trying AND fly past QH's that are doing a semi-slow lope]...and, well...he's not built like a Paint. We're wondering if he might also be a Spotted Saddle? Anyway. She brought her new QH mare over and we went on an hour long trail ride. We road on about 2 miles but we were all over the place, stopping and going back to race on different clear spaces. We even went by the road and he didn't mind at all when a huge truck flew by. When we got back to my house, my friend wanted to see if her WP mare could jump. So, I set one up and sure enough...they got up to 2' before the mare refused and turned at her like,"I thought we were supposed to jog over the poles I wanted to prove the "Gaited horses can't jump" myth wrong, so I set up a little course of 4 jumps. I've jumped up to 2'3 with him but I've tried taking it as slow as he'll let me. Anyway, he cleared 2'6 and 2'9...so we set it up for 3', which I normally would NOT do with a 23-year-old. But...he made it with room to spare, ears up and just as happy about it as a 6-year-old. |

If he's up for it and loves it, let him have fun. He must be one hard cookie to fit a saddle to. I wonder how much of that is age and how much is genetics. I am glad you are enjoying him, and the he has a new life full of joy as well.

It's called foam pad, supportive pad, and a blanket under all of that. Good thing it's cooling down around here. A few people commented that 3' was MUCH too high for a green 23-year-old. I realize that that's usually the case but he's happy and willing and healthy...so I'm happy and willing.
