standing martingale?

Just wondering how a standing should fit? It should be long enough to reach where the horse's head and neck meet..?

Usually you want it to just be able to touch the neck when the horse is standing with it's head at a natural height.

i read in a magazine that when u pull it up w/ one finger to their throat latch it should be like an inch or 2 away from it.

The way we fit tie downs, if , in relaxed head, you can touch the throatlatch with the strap. No tighter, no looser. It should snug up to it.

In english, I was under the impression it is the same.

The aim is to prevent your horse putting his head above the angle of control - not to strap his head down so when it is fastned to the girth and noseband you should be able to push it up into the gullet.

It must only be attached to a cavesson noseband - or the cavesson part of a flash noseband - if you attach to a drop noseband it affects the breathing.

it should be able to touch the horses throat latch, but not to tight or to loose.

if you go by pony club guidlines when the martingale is attached to the cavasson part of the noseband it should also be able to touch the throatlatch when pushed upwards. however in my experience this does not really prevent the horse putting its head high enough to completely evade the bit or stop it throwing its head high enough to hit you in the face. I usually adjust it so it fits to these guidelines and then tighten it two holes.
