| Senior Member+ | Standardbred X Gelding--Broke to Ride/Drive/Pack--Northern Alberta FOR SALE TO EXPERIENCED RIDER ONLY STANDARDBRED/MORGAN GELDING 8 YEARS OLD Solid black (though he does fade a bit in the summer) Approximately 17 hh No vices, healthy, easy keeper, excellent ground manners, an angel for the farrier, strong hooves, easy to catch. Broke to ride, pack and drive this gelding is a great all-round horse. Requires an experienced rider He is sensitive, has alot of 'go' and can be skittish if not ridden for a few weeks BUT he is a dream when used often. By "skittish" I mean he'll act jumpy and you need to take your time reassuring him...I do NOT mean he'll buck or rear. He's never offered to do either, in fact, apart from a pathetic attempt at a crow hop once. He doesn't act skittish if used regularly. This horse needs a job to do--if you were looking for a feedlot or ranch horse, look no further. He will not disappoint you. You won't find a horse more willing to work. He's been used in team penning and team roping, on cattle drives and on trails and in the mountains. He's packed in the mountains and pulled a cart on country roads. He's been ridden by experienced riders of all ages, from a 13 year old girl to a 60 year old woman. If he's so great why are we selling him? Honestly? I hate to admit it but he's simply too much horse for me or my beginner rider husband. I want to plod along and enjoy the scenery, he wants to get from Point A to Point B at a brisk walk, faster if you will let him. We don't ride often enough and because of his tendency to be skittish after a break from handling I find the time I do spend with him stressful. I suppose I have come to realize that I need an old, boring, slow horse rather than a flashy, handsome, fast one. He's such a sweet horse that it breaks my heart to sell him but there's no point in having him around if I can't get over being nervous around him. My loss is your gain. Asking $2500, open to offers. Will also consider a trade. Looking for quiet, 'anyone-can-ride' type horse, under 15 years of age, no vices, no lameness, no health problems. Grande Prairie Alberta. Email for more information and photos. Serious inquiries only please. Last edited by prairiegirl; 10-22-2007 at 09:40 AM. |

| Senior Member+ | VERY open to offers if he goes to a working home (ranch, mountain guiding, feedlot etc.) This horse has amazing potential. I'm telling you--give this horse a job and you will have a horse you'll brag about for years to come.

| Senior Member+ | Even though he's tall he is not wiry. He's solid enough to carry a male rider but is definitely suited to a lady rider too, especially because he's such a sweet horse and loves the extra attention most women love to shower on him. I CAN ride him and make him mind his manners but I am not confident enough to handle him after a few weeks off work. He gets skittish, I get skittish and you can just imagine that it's not enjoyable for anyone involved! Last edited by prairiegirl; 10-22-2007 at 10:20 AM. |
