i haven't, but i know some one who has. they say she's a greatest horse they've had. they ride her all over and she doesn't spook at anything. i think they are great horses. i grew up around them. my dad use to haul them to race tracks.

When my mom gets a horse I would like her to get one, I have a saddlebred, and I think that would be awsome to have a standeredbred and a saddlebred/

theyre great horses, i grew up and still live on a standardbred breeding farm, so im with them all the time. you will never meet a more willing and loving horse. they aim to please, are easy to transition from the track to the trail or ring. i reccomend looking at adopting one to anybody who is in the market for a new horse.

I went to a trail riding place a few years ago, and had the pleasure of riding a recently rescued standardbred mare. She was still pretty new to the trail riding thing, but since I knew how to ride pretty well, they let me ride her. I rode her in a snaffle bit and they directed me to kinda ride/steer ehr as if she were still hooked up th a sulky; hard to explain, but i kinda pulled the reins out and back slightly to steer her, not just steering by holding my hands in front like you do when riding a regular horse in a snaffle. It was kinda weird, but she was an extremely quiet mount and did not even try to eat the foliage on the sides of the trail, like everyone else's QHs were! Her trot was VERY bouncy though, but still fun! This is all the exp. i have with st-breds, but it was overall a good riding mare I rode.

Well I posted before about my STB Whiskey. I had to put him down last week. It was so hard but it was the right thing to do for him. I just could not watch him continue to get worse knowing he was going to die and he just did not want to let go of life.

So anyway now he is gone I am taking on another STB. Baby's owner needed someone to lease her so I am going to take her over completly. I do love her so much and I'm glad I get to have her. Her suspensory is healed already, I can hardly believe how quick she got better. It has been about 5 weeks and she is going out to pasture and comes in sound. I am starting longing her next week and if she still seems good riding the next week. I need to get some good pics of her to post on the board.

Wow this is great so many people have gotten to experience the breed! Woohoo!

With regards to adoption - if its the same as in Canada - you can contact your local track and they can usually direct you to an adoption program in your area.

Long live the bouncy trot! lol (try the pace if you ever get the chance it takes some getting used to but its wonderful for your back if you are on a long trail ride, as is the running walk or fox trot - which most of them will do)

Here is a good resource for STB adoption in the USA there are of course quite a few more and you can probably find a local on at your local racetrack if you have one.
