Oh my, not turning them out! My guys would never survive. It can be 50 below and they are pounding their stall doors come 5:00am - I rarely put them in because Belle throws a temper tantrum (unless its really nasty out). Right now its pouring rain and windy - but not really that cold (7 degrees celcius) and they are out there in all their velvety glory chowing down on hay.

You've got a pair of spoiled brats on your hands (humm thats probably the pot calling the kettle black...)

LOL yeah don't I know it. But really I do prefer them to be out as much as possible. It is just if I am cold I thingk they will be too but I know better. So I go ahead and put them out in spite of my misgivings. In winter yes they are brought in each night but come summer they will go out 24/7. Unfortunatly Pumper is at the other farm for the time being so he has to be in a lot more. But he gets cold easy any way. Don't grow enough hair.

Standardbreds generally tend to be tough horses when it comes to the weather - which is fantastic, but I too still worry. You just have to restrain yourself - they don't need that cup of hot coco and goose feather comforter...but man its so hard not to spoil something you love so much!

She's not helpind! I went to bring them in last night and she was so wet and shivering a bit. I felt really bad for her. I used the sweat scraper to get most of the water off but man it really makes me want to put her wethabeeta on her. She has not worne one before but I am thinking of using it on her for the wet days. I wonder if having not been out in weather for a year will make her less able to cope with that sort of thing.

Well since my mare had her foal I've found she doesn't weather as well. For instance, last night the temp really dropped and it was raining so I went out to check them. Belle was shivering a bit as well, so I let them into the barn yard while I was preparing their stalls - and just being in out of the wind made her warm up (she wasn't even in under the shelter just out of the wind). Does your horse have a wind break - that might make a difference -?

No unfortunatly they don't other than the trees. I am trying to get the owner of the place to build a shelter for them.
It really was not windy though just very cold rain. She seems fine now though.

Would your horse put up with this?

Pip has been horseback riding since she was 10 weeks old! She's the one in the bag. Merri has only recently been introduced to horses. They're rescues too!

yeah common chomp chomp!

Yeah! Baby has finally begun to understand sidepass! And I have been riding her in the ring with nothing on her at all except for a piece of rope around her neck. Just at the walk but she will turn stop back and go over the trail course bridge for me. Her canter is now nice and balanced and she has more than one speed and she finally is balanced enought o try her left lead on her own for me. She usually prefers her right.

Massage chiroparctor came and found nothing that needed to be done for her. No sore spots nothing out even with all of the slick footing and steep hills we ride on.
