Just caught wind of a broker in Manitoba who just bought 2 truck loads from Alberta for the Omish in the states. I guess the free horses in the states aren't good enough. |

Maybe I'm dese, or it could be that I'm tired... and I don't want this to come off as ride- because it isn't meant to be at all... but what point are you trying to make?.. lol if some STB's are given another chance to go drive, just because its in the staes... whats the difference?

but amish arn't necessarily the beast carer of horses. i live right smack dab in the middle of amish country in my state, and its not too uncommon to see sickly thin horses, who are limping and pulling buggies full of amish in the poring rain. i do understand thats not all amish. but ive been told many times here, that horses usually dont mean much to amish, becasue they can easily go to new holland auction to get new horses. im not trying to steriotype, but i think i get what she means by this thread. mind you, there are nice amish, maybe these horses will be lucky enough to go to some of them.

Thanks englishXjumper... I know nothing about the Amish.. except my friend (and now boss') BEST gelding for her company was used by the Amish for years. He is AMAZINGLY trained and insanely smart.. wasn't the prettiest when he got here, but was in general good health.. just 'farkley' as we called him. now hes gorgeous. Thats about al the experience I have with Amish and their horses!!

Not trying to stir anything up! The amish have to take good care of their horses...they are their livelyhood.

I understand where the OP is coming from. People in the states keep importing horses from other countries, when there are so many horses in need here that it's kind of sad to hear about. It's great they are giving horses a home, but we just wish more people in the states would take in the horses in the states that need homes...did that make sense?? I agree...the Amish is a hard life for a horse (depending on what job they have), not saying they are treated bad or good, but they do have hard work to do! |

i know what you mean by not wanting to stir anything up. but horses are in the pastures, not out being worked pulling heavy buggys full of people. i do know for a fact that there are good amish out there, just many arnt the best carers of their horses

An amish horse came to our barn once (sold to new people) and he was very skinny and head-shy. It took a long time to get him to quiet down and relax around people. I don't think all Amish are like that either, but I know a good portion that don't treat there horses well
