If you're with a big show barn with many horses at the show, it can be helpful to whoever is feeding and taking care of them to know which horse is which.

Even if you're not with a show barn, having your horse's name and your contact info is important in case your horse were to get injured or sick while you weren't there. If someone walking by notices blood all over your horse's leg or your horse rolling around colicing, it would be helpful if they could reach you.

All of those reasons aside, having a pretty little photoshop of your pony with his/her name is just plain cute

For pony club rallies you are REQUIRED to have a picture and full description of your mount on a "stall card" hung on the outside of the stall. This includes contact information, emergency contacts, owner's/rider's name, horse's name, age, breed, gender, vital signs, vices, medical history, insurance information... the whole shebang.

Now, after several years in pony club I just have a ready made stall card with me at all times and it goes on my horse's stall even if we aren't at a pony club rally, I just feel better knowing somebody can contact me asap should my horse have a problem in his stall when I am not there.

Your required to have stall signs on your horse's stalls at our 4-h fair as well. That include your horse's name, your emergancy contacts, the vet, and what club your showing with.

@ most boarding barns you have to have stall cards. mainly for safety - in an emergency, the BO may need your #, vet, vets #, etc.

and what idewild said about PC. at bigger shows, it's for the same reason, and for grooms, and for advertising your barn (helps business and all that)

We have nice name plates just for shows. If you want to show with my trainer it's basically required along with having everything from buckets to tack trunks in barn colors.

I think the pictures your talking about are generaly from 4-H, PC or fairs where people tend to have stall signs with pictures and sometimes even a little paragraph about their horse, or at least thats what I've seen.

most of the shows i go to people show out of their trailer, but at 4-h its just a fun thing to do but some people go a little over board buy having full framed professional pictures for a county fair. I have also seen them at Qh congress and i think many of those are for people interested in buying or breeding kind of like an advertisement for the horse outside of the stall so people can see what they look like when they are in full show attire.

We only decorate for fair, it's not required (except emergecy info) but its a nice touch. I have fun decorating, and we've won prizes for our stalls a few times.
This years stall--
