Stallions - what's with the WOW factor ?

I read a lot of peoples comments regarding stallions, and whether people should cut their young colts or let them remain a stallion. One of the questions I wanted to ask was about "wow factor" that seems to be one of the main things that people seem to require out of a stallion. would you breed to a stallion that didn't have "wow factor". had a limited show record? Yes I admit there are some pics that people do post and I go "wow that is a nice looking stallion" but I won't knock someones stallion because the picture was of him looking fluffy in a field or just a snap. So would you breed based on wow factor?

does this horse have wow factor for instance? I am just asking peoples opinions

I think the WOW factor is a combo of things. First, great conformation. He should be near as perfect as can be, and that alone makes the stud pleasing to the eyes. Conformation faults just don't make good looking horse, peroid.

Another is the paper WOW. I want to see a pedigree with names close up that I KNOW, that I can flip to that breed's top stallions and find right near the top. Horses in there that are winners and produce winners. Not everything is hereditary, but if they are proving they CAN pass on good qualities, then that shows this stud might too.

For "pretty" WOW, well, I personally fall hard for a good head. Good, large eyes, wide forehead, clean throat, and a refined face. But that is me

When they move, I want a WOW that looks like it would be a DREAM to ride.

Finally, I want a stud that when handled, you think you are handling a mare. That includes in the breeding shed. not all studs are rageing beasts when confronted by a mare in heat. They can be trained to be gentlemen. There is no sense not to.

I think I would have to know what I am breeding for, before I go on just the wow factor or bloodlines/showrecord/disposition.

That picture does not give him the wow factor for me, it makes him look like he has a giant body and no head. To me it also appears that his legs angle inward.

Oh yeah, - if I were breeding for halter, that stud might be wow, but I wouldn't be. I want something that can work, and to me, that stud would solely be used for halter, nothing more. Maybe someone with halter horses can decide on his WOWiness

i agree with moostang, this stallions body doesn't match his head, and his legs look like they come in together. WOW at first glance, not so wow at 2nd one! i,personally would rather buy a foal already on the ground,LOL, BUT, i know many owners like to breed and have the experience.

If I was looking for a halter horse...maybe, but I'm not into Halter so that pic looks like a tubby QH with no feet and a little head! when shopping for studs, I look based on:

A: What disapline(sp?) eg Reining, performance, ect
B: Bloodlines
C: Temperment. I insist on going out and seeing the stallion inthe field and being handled
D: Conformation
Usually a pretty boy in a nice pic will peak my interest and make me say WOW!
