3wishes....that first pic of that stud is not leo. Is it? I was thinking it was, in fact, a Leo horse, but not actually LEO.

WOW to me will depend on the breed, what you are looking for, performance for what you want the foal to be, etc.

To me, the mare AND stallion should have WOW factors! Not just the stallion.

Which is why many of the top performance stallions have the option to turn away mares. Many, before confirming your mare to book, will observe the mare, look at the pedigree, and approve the mare for the booking, or turn the mare away.

Why? Because why breed to a mare who will ruin your stallion's name!! Because half of her genes will be in that foal.

Smile

The REAL "WOW factor" for me cannot be seen in a photo.
It is a special quality that a horse has that, for me, can only be seen by seeing the horse in real life.
Yes breeding, conformation and performance are a big part of the "WOW Package", but for me, it goes beyond showyness..it is beyond a commanding presence... it is what I call being "self aware." A horse that is TRULY self-aware is, for me, an amazing creature! I have seen only a three horses that had this special rare quality and one of those was a mare.
When you do experience one there is no doubt in your mind that you are not only in the presence of greatness, but of a very old and wise soul!!!
That, at least for me, is what the "WOW Factor" is and is all about!

Thanks so much guys for your responses. its been really interesting to hear what you would all go for in a stallion, and more importantly what the wow factor of a stallion has to do with influencing (sp) your choice.

that picture is not of leo though. I don't think I would pull the wool over your eyes by using some one like leo for this thread.

.. that picture was just a sorrel stallion that had won some halter points. I agree not much to go on if you were hoping to have a performance horse. I will try and get a better pic of him if there is one..

Never underestimate the Ginga Ninja !!

there you go .. is that a better picture of him? he has his name on that picture. it looks like they used a little more show sheen on this pic too

there is a saying .. a picture is worth a thousand words. But don't judge a horse too harshly based on a picture alone.... or even a performance record, because sometimes a stallion that never enters the arena to work a cow will become the leading sire of cutting horses. I know the saying of a foal with a future has a stud with a past, but we all know of Doc Bar for what he produced not what he won. His only performance was in halter, and winning $90 odd in a few races. Breeding is a gamble in any way shape and form.

I just thought it was a good thing to bear in mind. I hope you didn't mind the thread.
