![]() ![]() | For the sake of behavioural issues i wouldnt use a stallion younger than three years old, preferably four years old. Most are physically capable by about 1 and 1/2 2 at the very latest. Hol |

| Senior Member+ | I don't breed any stallions until they are 3 yrs of age. By then, they should have developed mentally enough and physically to handle the situation. Breeding itself takes a lot from a horse. VERY strenuous exercise on the heart. By then, you should also have them very easy to handle, to shut down, and to behave when asked. I taught mine to "shut down" as a safety measure. If the mare is a total loony, I'd get him away from her fast and shut him down before he got hurt.

![]() ![]() | Well I dont own any stallions, but we do breed Quarter Horses. And we dont breed any of our mares until they are at the VERY least 3 years old so that they would have a foal due when they are 4, but I personally prefer to wait to breed a mare when they are 4 and then they will have their foal when they are 5. Im not sure if this is the same w/ a stallion. If I owned a stallion(which I will eventually) I dont paln on breeding him out to mares until he is at least 4. Sorry, Im probably not much help with your question. |
