Specific time of year to purchase or lease a horse?

I know that if you want to purchase a boat the best time to buy is in the off season which would be in the winter. Buying an automoble has its own time of year which is great to get the best price.

But is there a specific time of year to purchase or lease a horse when prices are at there lowest?

Thanks

Jonathon

It does depend on what kind of horse you are looking for but the general rule is in the fall, as well as May when babies are being sold.

Fall and winter are the lowest to buy a horse (unless you live in Arizona or Florida, and then winter is highest).
If you want more selection than Spring/Summer is better (though more expensive).
Most people don't market their horses in the winter.

Around here, this time of year is the best time to sell.... every one is gearing up for show season. If you are buying, the best time to buy is fall, because show season is over and people don't want to board through winter if they know they are going to part with the horse.

Make sense?

Alright getting more specific I am reffering to a horse suited for a beginner for the first time. I have no idea what breed would be best suited for that, possibly a QH.
