OK so my frined(lets call her A) owns a horse(lets call him B) and they are having this trainer(lets call her C) train him.Well A (i guess) never saw C train her horse. No one has, because she comes so erly in the day. Well I was with Jasper today and finally saw C and the horse, B. So i was watching them, she walked, and troted and then put him back. I was shocked. I thought they would do more with him!! He has been having this training for about 2 months and is still the same. A has not ridden B yet. Is this normal? I just dont want A to get cheated on. Thanks(PS: not bashing A,B,or C, I just want to know if this is normal) Oh and he was saddle broke(w/t/c and some jumping) but just had some behavor problems(stopping, bucking, winggnig head ect...)

She's probably working on getting his walk and trot solid before adding the canter. The horse may have been trained for w/t/c, but was it trained right? Did it carry itself properly? You start out getting the horse to carry himself properly at a walk, then add the trot. When the horse is comfortable carrying itself, you add the canter.

I would say for the horse owner to go watch some of the training sessons, and perhaps ask the trainer to help her out while she rides the horse as well. See how the horse is progressing and talk with the trainer about the horse, how he/she (the trainer) thinks the horse is doing, what else he/she (trainer) is going to be doing with the horse, etc.

IT's really difficult to tell, just from you note, whether or not the trainer is doing the correct work. Nevertheless, if I were the owner you better believe I'd watch the training - not because I would not trust the trainer, but because I would want to learn as I am watching. Personally, I think it is more advantageous when the owner rides and gets training lessons...but that's just me.

right. I was not sure if thats right or not. He was solid in troting, but he would stop and all, but if u make him trot, he will do it for u. I just wanted to get all of ur opinions

some part of training sometimes is just wearing down energy and getting them in shape. its possible she did a lot with him the day prior and he just needed a relaxed ride. Or she is doing muscle building to help him progress etc. You can never know whats going through the trainers mind, best thing to do is ask them. This does not mean you have to be there for every single session. But its good to watch sometimes, ask whats going on and keep tabs on it. Your friend needs to know how fast things are progressing, what issues the trainer is running into, what she is doing to fix them etc. My instructor gives updates to the people she trains horses for. I never had her train a horse in my life before Bon, but he needed his flying lead changes installed and I did not have the time to do it. This meaning I did not know how to teach him and did not have time to constantly go out to the instructor to have her help me teach him. It was just easier to drop him off and have her teach him the basics. We dropped him off Sunday, she called Wednesday to give me an update, saying his right fly was down and his left was okay but he felt off behind when switching to the left so I should probably get him chiro'd (best $83 I ever spent on my horse lol, not only did I get a back adjustment but I got an evaluation, in which he found that Bon had pulled his suspensory which saved me a call to the vet to figure out why he started limping at our last show, and he told me how to care for him etc talk about a steal of a deal). That Friday, before I was supposed to pick him up she called and told me the status of his flys and said I could leave him another week if I wished for some polishing on the flies but I could do that myself, so she suggested I take him home. So I did. I know she does this with other horses. People call her all the time, or if they do not contact her after a while she calls them to tell them how things are going. You dont want to be paying a trainer tons of $ if they already have the horse doing everything you want do you?
