| Senior Member+  | Some videos to show some "buttons" on Tex
Since in cutting we can't use our hands while working the cattle it is quite important to have a gooood handle on the horses. I was talking with another HGSr about stops and decided to put up a video. As you can see in this video, forward, stop and back can be controlled by my body. My hands only picked up because he was pointed to go onto the grass instead of stay on the dirt, so I just picked up to redirect him. One button I forgot to mention was if you push down on his neck, he'll drop his head. You can never tell when it I push down, but you can see him drop his head. (I think it's in the 3rd video) And here is another showing spins. Note, we are not reiners, so his spins are not great by using legs only. If I picked up my hand some for more forward direction, he'd spin more like a reiner. I like to do these spins as warm up to get him thinking "stay on my butt, stay on my butt". And here I work the mechanical cow. At a point in the video, I use my body (seat/legs) to tell him to stop. The cow continues to travel along the string. As you see he does turn each time the cow comes by, but he generally stays in the same spot. THIS comes in handy in the shows if another cow runs out and you have two cows in front. If you can control the horse with your body and never have to pick up your hand (and suffer a penalty), you can show courage and if the horse doesn't switch cattle can give you a decent score. This has happened before at the show and Tex listened I didn't have to pick up my hand. Enjoy!

Great video, lovely horse, considerate, talented rider. What more is there? Thanks a bunch for sharing. Wonderful. Tex is a star, a real gem.

Brandi I do appreciate the refresher we all need them every now and then and with my issues SEEING it helped alot... Sassy's buttons aren't that refined .. now for Matt they are but not me LOL ..
