You gotta let it "hang loose" I've tried riding it stiff --just to see what'd happen--but the horse starts to work like junk. They can really feel you aboard.

I know. I wish I had that much energy. But then again, I don't think I want to nip cows heels.

those are some awesome pics!! I love seeing a cutting horse working it's magic on a cow-I've never actually seen it in person, just in pictures and videos and I think its amazing how the horse anticipates the way the cow is moving. If I ever got the chance to ride one I'd probably fall off the first time the horse dipped and turned lol

I love cutting brahma cattle, they can really work. I've had some of my best works on them. Other times, they can be awful wild. I had one in Red Bluff that I cut, it ran, mooing, all the way past the judges stands, through some people, and then came back at a full run, mooing, mad!, and ran RIGHT INTO Hal's shoulder and back into the herd. Yeah that wasn't fun.
I bet it wasn't fun. Those nutso cattle can make or break a run quick.

That reminded me....Saturday at the show, I cut my last cow out with about 11 seconds left. That think ducked and darted and all of a sudden snorted and blew at me I'm glad the buzzer rang shortly, that nut could have cost me first place

The good cow horses can read a cow's mind and body. Mediocre cow horses just mirror the cow's movements and don't anticipate. And you wouldn't fall off, although I have seen it happen at at show. Her saddle wasn't tight.

Up at the McAuliffe ranch cutting in Ft Klamath, they always had brahma cattle. Once in the practice pen I was turning back for one of Don's non pros and he cut one and I swear the cow was working his horse as his horse worked the cow. They were a perfect mirror image; I mean the cow was actually rocking back over his hocks and sucking through himself just like the horse. Weird!

The way they gathered the cattle there was with a huge brahma lead steer. He had a huge hump and horns. They tie him to the back of a hay wagon and then all the cattle follow him!!!

Great pics!! I just love Tex So you're delivering him to me this weekend right? You think I could "hang loose" and not end up with a face full of dirt?
