The Animal Control Officer heading his investigation just happens to be a close friend of his...sound fishy? It does to me...
Piedmont! I know what you mean though! It kills me when people do that to these poor innocent horses.

Long back story (I'll make it as short as possible):

My friend has been in love with this horse since it was foaled, finally (YEARS later) convinced the guy to sell him to her. He would only sell on the condition she keep him a stud. She couldn't find anywhere to board him (since he is a stally) so she kept him there and arranged for the guy to use him as a stud to equal out his feed and board costs there. Life happened, a year goes by since she has last seen her horse. We go out to see him one day...TERRIBLE conditions. The guy is old, has REALLY let his place go. His place is dirt pastures with wood with nails in it, old rusty machinery, trash, and way too many horses for the land. No hay or feed in sight. A little yearling colt was eating a piece of wood. I bawled on the way out of that place. My friend says ok, I'm taking him out of here. We found a place to keep him (rent our own pasture and barn) and hook up the trailer to go get him. Guy refuses to give him to her. She has no reciept, no bill of sale. She's been hoodwinked and is SOL. Cops can do nothing, Animal Control WON'T do anything (because he's "complying") so we get a friend of his to convince him to let my friend take the horse. The conditions: she pay him a 1600.00 feed bill over time. Its the only way she could get him out of that he**hole so she signs. At least we've gotten him out of there.

So here he is, getting fatter and more muscle by the day. I'm so proud of the way he looks now, its amazing what a few groceries can do for a horse. :-)

when she bought him years ago:

The day after we finally got him home:

his pretty face (he saw the mares out in the pasture while we were bathing him)

One week later:

Two weeks later:

And now, still gaining, but slowly. He looks a million times better! :-)

he looks great when he gets fatter please please put up more pics he is one handsome horsey

This is a bit off topic, but I have to support my "apply loving" stand. Yesterday, I went to a gals house, that I only recently met. She rode with me last saturday in the hills on one of her horses and wanted me to come and look at her other 5. Upon arrival I immediately notice spots on one of them and asked if it was appy. She said it was appy and TB cross, five years old, 30 days of training, not ridden in 12 months. She was more into showing me her Walker, Morgan, Paint horses, but I kept going back to the Appy mare. I asked if I could ride her. She looked at me like I had lost my mind but seizing the opportunity to put some time on her, soon drug out the saddle. She stood quietly while I saddled her up and gave me a slight problem when I bitted her up but soon settled down and lowered her head in acceptance.

Long story short....Thirty minutes later I was loping her in small circles and trotting barrel patterns. Head never came up, never neighed or whinnied to her buddies, stood quietly in the center, while the other gal rode and beefed up my already stellar opinion of the appy disposition.

So thanks for letting me go off topic but for a wonderful cause. I figured if you love Appy's like I do, you would not be offended.

side note** went home and told my Paint gelding that he better be very happy that I love him so much, or he would be soon replaced by a lady with spots.
