No heat that I can think of, and I don't think they are swollen... he is sensitive to when I put pressure on the scabs and that area but I don't blame him.. He's 100% sound, and has NO other adverse side affects..

I've had success using dog shampoo with pinetar [I think that's it] in it to treat scratches/rain rot, and it's work in very severe cases as well. Worth a try.

Is that something I can pick up at wal-mart? I'll definitely look into it.. It's not been a HUGE concern for me as he has scabs everywhere from itching, he's not lame and he's not off his feed... But im gonna plan to talk to the vet about it when he comes for coggins...

I agree its time to have the vet scrape to find out what it is.

You mentioned itchyness, is he itchy elsewhere?

Whatever it is, I suspect you'll have better treatment results if you can clip his legs (not bald, just down to the length for your average body clip.)

Interesting. Definitely time for a scraping then. Maybe allergic to a new set of work boots? (Neoprene or some such) Or detergent used on polos, etc.

No detergent used on work boots, I don't believe in polos..

He has allergies, but mainly skin issues due to him being a curly and down in Florida. The heat and bugs bother him IMMENSELY!

I will get a skin scraping done and I don't think shaving will do much goo and I don't have clippers. It has healed a bit since i've been putting boots on so I will get some updated pictures..

It looks like scratches to me... or greasy heel... my horse had it this spring... I will attach pics to show you...
I had to scrub them with antibacterial soap, clipped the hair away first, then treated with triple antiboitic ointment, then fungal cream- Panalog and then covered it in Desitin ( white creamy diaper rash cream) cleared it up in like 3 days... but you have to get the scabs soft and get them off as best you can to treat the sores.
