so question, can a sorrel turn into a palomino

ok so i have a 18 month morgan X quarter filly. her mom is a perfect chestnut while dads a faded black.

any way i have pictures from a long time ago (last october lol) and they suck. she had just turned 1 yr old. 3 months before the pictures and they were taken a week and a half before she was wormed.
but they work for colour.

shes darker in the pics but i checked her out last night and her mane and tail are turning white or at least a washed out blonde. not really flaxen any more. and her red is getting a lot of gold. lol any way here are the pictures i could find. ( oh and she had a cold at the time)

There is no way a chestnut can turn into a palomino. BUT, there are many palomino foals that are born looking like chestnuts. With the sire and dam's color there would be no possible way your girl was a palomino. Except if the sire was actually a smokey black. Black with a dilute gene. Then he could throw buckskins and palominos.

Your girl look 100% chestnut with a beautiful flaxen mane and tail. As they shed their winter coats their color will change.

There are MANY shades of chestnut, and just as many of palomino. It can come down to a genetic test to prove one or the other

Genetically, one cannot 'turn' into the other. But they can look like each other sometimes!

Believe it or not - this horse is chestnut!

This one is a palomino! (far left)

Nope, a sorrel can't turn palomino, and you're horse is sorrel... you're horse cannot be a palomino because neither parent has the creme gene...

The black sire could actually be smokey black (black + cream) and could throw a palomino if he is EeaaCrcr.

Yeah, I was thinking that this COULD HAVE been the case when I was reading the OP's post and it said "faded black", but looking at the pics, a cute flaxen chestnut.

But the colors are wrong for palomino... that is the flaxen gene coming out. BTW flaxen is one of those frustrating things that is ambiguous and shows up when it wants to in breeds that do not have it as a norm. I have a friend who has bred flaxen to flaxen numerous times to try to get a grasp on it and 9 times out of 10 had self colored mane and tail.
