Exclamation So many questions but...

So now i know my horse is collected at the walk but as soon as I ask for a trot he loses the collection and goes wild. How do i know when to start teaching him to stay collected at the trot? How do I go about doing it, as soon as i ask for the trot i cannot get him to round himself again . I started teaching him a couple weeks ago and he seems to understand it kind of.... Hes making very good progress though so I was still very happy with todays ride!

Lateral flextion. Can your horse make a small circle in the jog flexed to the inside? If not, work on that. Same muscles are vertical flextion. If he can, at that point you should only be using one rein, so whilst in a small circle in the jog (once he's good at it!) shorten the outside rein just enough to have pressure on his mouth, and bump with your feet, the second he dips his nose and his stride changes, release, and do it again. Thats how the reiners get started on it.

That's a really loaded question

Why? Because so very often what people think is "collected" is really the horse just sucking back and pretending to be "on the bit". It falls apart at a higher gait because there was no foundation before it.

So, we really need video, or at least some pictures.
