Snow on hooves
This is kind of a stupid question I guess, but does snow hurt hooves? I have always heard that repeated wet and dry is really bad for hooves, and my horses go out, get their feet all snowy, come in, and it melts off and dries. Should I be putting some sort of a sealer on them?
Also....is there any way to keep it from balling up in their hooves? They don't wear shoes.
I wouldn't put a sealer on, their feet need to breathe. Treat the coronet band, I don't believe slapping moisturiser on the hooves does anything at all. Cornucrescine is the best stuff on the market. To prevent snow packed hooves, you can slather vasoline on the sole of their hooves.

You can also use non-stick spray, like Pam. It's also good to keep snow out of the hair around their feet and tail.
In the quiet light of the stable, you hear a muffled snort, the stamp of a hoof, a friendly nicker. Gentle eyes inquire, "How was your day old friend?" and suddenly, all your troubles fade away.
Thanks, MissBandit. I'll have to look that stuff up. Does Corona work on hooves at all?
