Small patch of hair flaking off???

Betty has a patch of hair on her left hip that is starting to come off. When I pushed some of the hair back I saw that her skin was getting real flaky (like big flakes). She moved away from me while I was looking at it so I'm wondering if it was bothering her. It looks like she's been scratching it with her teeth.
Do you guys have any suggestions on how to treat it???

She was probably bitten or rubbed/banged against something, and the top layer of skin is now dead and coming off. Depending on the cause it could very well be sore for a bit.

It might be rain rot or it could be a bite. If are are unsure, you could wash it with betadine.

I've seen this in one of the prehistoric geldings we've got out here and I can't explain it either.

Thanks guys...I will give the betadine a try. It doesn't seem to be getting worse so that's good.
