Slowing the trot but keeping extension

I do not post often but when I do I get great responses, filled with knowledge from all of you so thank you in advance. Over the past year my mare was messed up by a trainer who got my english horse stuck in reverse and afraid to go forward. We have gone back to the basics since January and she is going very well. We went to our first AQHA show this year and did quite well for doing almost everything myself. We placed in everyclass but usually between 4th and 6th. We want to get working over the winter and one of the things that both I and the judges stated was finding a better speed for her gaits mainly the trot. She has great movement and extension but now I need to slow her down a little bit but keep the extension and the forward movement. Before all of this started she does have the slow leggs needed but now we need to find them again. If anyone has any ideas please post anything will be greatly appreciated as we do not have any descent trainers in our area.

I'm not sure where you are in WI but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Shannon McKillips.

The most obvious way to slow her down is post slower but continue to push with your seat and legs while restricting slightly with the reins to encourage that HUS float. A video would help us give you more specific advice.
