Actually Stormy-I find that article to be very Pro.

The over view of it, is that horses are still going to slaughter and suffering miserably. It goes on to say the actual slaughter of the animal is the least of it's abuse and most of the
inhumane treatment come with the transit of animals.

So here we are again eh?

I don't know if I have it in me for another full blown slaughter debate, especailly now that County has gone to the big pasture in the sky.

ditto Reyven, you said it better then I could..Inhumane treatment is wrong. No one is arguing that..It must be stopped. I am pro slaughter, but being that does not mean I will tolarate inhumane treatment of horses..absolutely not..treating all animals with respect and gentleness right up through the moment of death is my hope. Whether it be via a slaughter house, a dog pound, or our ranch when the need arises to put an animal down, or butchering our beef. It should always be done with love and as quietly as possible.

i use to think..."oh no slaughter is mean" but now i think we need to keep the plants open in the states so the conditions are under our control. but that is part of the problem!!!!!! even in the states the conditions are terrible. if we could set regualations and inforce them then we might be able to get a grasp on the "situation."

Alot of things we do to animals is mean. Ever been around a ranch when they're working the calves? What those calves go through while in the shoot is far more traumatic compared to what a horse goes through during it's actual slaughter, especially the bull calves who are not going to remain intact. They are not given a local or anything else that will dull the pain of a red hot brand, some extending the entire length of the rib cage, or the castration in which the sperm cords are pulled literally out of the body. Then a common household antiseptic like Lysol is sprayed over both wounds, the cow is tagged in the ear, wormed and vaccinated, which they are hardly aware of due to the first two processes, and then let loose to stagger around until they find their moms. On the rare occasion, the weaker calf dies from the procedure within a day or two, yet nobody is running to save the calves.

Why? Because we love our steaks, burgers and ribs.

If our country loved horse meat, would this even be an issue??

Other countries look at us and scratch their heads because they cannot figure out our tribulation over killing a very valuable meat source for consumption.

In many countries, the cow and pig are forbidden as a food source but the horse is not.

I know I have said this countless times, and I will say it probably countless more. In banning commercial slaughter of horse meat and commercial sale of horse meat, we effectively lost our right to regulate it. It is still being done, just not by us.

That is like asking your conscience-less neighbor to put your beloved dog down because you do not have the guts to do it, even knowing that it would be done more humanely in your hands. Your neighbor could care less.

Evidence of what? Abuse? I don't think you will find too many people who want to see horses abused, even if they are pro slaughter (which I am)

If you (you being general, not anyone in particular) were to open several slaughter houses around the country the horses wouldn't have to travel for days on end in a stuffed trailer, and in most cases you wouldn't need holding pens seperate from those at the slaughter house, which could be regulated and watched for this kind of abuse.

You can handle a debate! County was good at it, and we all miss him.....even me.

There aren't enough horses in this country to keep "several slaughter houses around the country" going. When we only had 3 plants operating there still wasn't enough horses.....they were bringing them down from Canada!
