Difference between Paints and Pinto's?

This should help you understand

Paint is a breed

to be a paint you must always be a QH, but not all QH's are paints...

What is he registered as? If you just say Paint, people who are into the breed will know that he is a QH (since you must be a QH to be a paint )

You said he's a registered paint, so he's a paint.

QH's and Paints are pretty much the same thing except one has color. (IMO!)

My grandparents, aunt, and my cousins (who pretend they know about horses) always ask me what kind of horse Tucson is. My response is always "He's a paint" and theirs is always "yea, i know, but what KIND of paint?"

I just glare at them...

PINTO is a color registry, and includes all different "kinds" of horses. You can have Arabs, TBs, Morgans, etc. in the Pinto registry.

PAINT is a registry for colored horses with QH blood.

ooo...the dreaded PAINTS are Colored Quarter Horse comments.

ROFLMAO

that is enough to slice a few throats! ROFLMAO

Not ALL paints are QH decendants either. The Tobiano color pattern comes from lines that do not exist in the Arabian/Tb/Qh family tree.

So TOBIANOS are not glorified QH's, however their bloodlines may have been tainted with the Tobiano color line.

OVEROS CAN be glorified QH's....since the Overo IS carried by the QH lines.

But PAINT as a whole is a breed

PINTO is the coloration of the patterns and used to describe non-PAINT registered horses.
