Silly but serious question :)

I just bought a brand new Albion SLK Ultima dressage saddle (it cost me a FORTUNE) and i really need to protect it and keep it in the best condition possible for the rest of bailey's life (he's got another 20 yrs on him)... lol.

so my question is... how do i keep it safe while we trail ride? i don't have the option of trail riding him in another saddle, i cannot afford to buy another, and he's practically impossible to fit (hense i had to buy a costum made albion). I need to protect it from scratches from tree branches and the possibility of being caught in the rain, etc... should i wear a "skirt" that covers the saddle while i sit in it (like a skirt that i wear that is long enough to cover the saddle... i mean)? or do you think that would be ridiculous and hot for both bailey and I. Do i really need to protect it? does anyone else?
any and all opinions are welcome

thanks!

If you want to protect it from getting scratched while trail riding you could use a special saddle cover. They make covers that are for riding in the rain. They have a hole cut in the top near the skirt. You have to thread the stirrup leather through this part of the saddle cover. You can also make your own special saddle cover by cutting a hole in a regular saddle cover.

I have heard of the saddle covers for when you are riding, I will have a look when I get a chance. If you do not mind could I ask you how you are getting on with your new saddle as I am thinking of getting the same one for my horse.

thanks
about the ultima... i don't have it yet, lol. it should be here next week and then i'll let you know. I've ridden in it twice (when i chose to buy it) and i loved it, its the only saddle i've found that can be made to fit my horse, and it fits me very nicely as well. Albion makes wonderful saddles, i highly recommend them. what breed of horse do you have?
