You are going to have so much fun!
I hope you look into joining the ISSO .
Or some group, so you can get advice from
other Side saddle riders..

Sounds like your horse is up for it,
and enjoys new things..
May I say, do not worry so much about the weight of the saddle..
think of how heavy some silver parade saddles are..
The one's I have dealt with were really not that heavy.
Some of the old ones are stuffed with horse hair..
they do have helf.
But you always can restuff with a lighter , kinder material.

My friend hunted Opening day side saddle..
shes such a show off !

I love hearing about folks trying new things,
and wish you every success!

mm i am getting one custom made so it will be made of modern materials no doubt. its ok for horses that are ridden in stock saddles etc, and western saddles! omg i cant even lift one!

but Savannah is being ridden in a featherlight Bates, Caprilli show saddle, i can carry it on one arm without any effort its so light. the sidesaddle is going to be noticeabley heavier than her usual one. she IS going to notice its heavier. and also because i am going to be sitting further back in the sidesaddle i am being very very cautious about keeping her back sound. i dont want to injure her lower back just for my thrill!

she's such a delicate flower my horse. she's not a cob, she's a very fine TB and truly everything has to be just right for my little princess or she throws a little fit to let me know about her displeasure lol! its cute now cos she gives me these baleful glares and scowls at me, but it wasnt cute before when her hissy fit was bucking ha ha! my how things have changed!

see look how dainty she is!! she's a twig! so yeah, i'm being careful about her back for sure ha ha

Oh my!
She is a delicate flower!
I am sure you have spoken to the saddle maker about this ..
perhaps there is someway to make it a bit lighter for her?

BTW, the "skirt" called an apron, is the simplest part of the habit
and there are excellent patterns to be had for them.
You wear britches and boots under them.
Just a nice few yards of whatever matches your jacket,
and you have a start to a nice side saddle habbit.

Top hats with a veil are a bonus as well.
It really is a romantic , and elegant look.

For shows they use full apointments.
Sandwich case, with a sandwich
Flask of port , sting gloves under the billets ect..

Your mare is lovley ..

Have Fun,
Paula
