Shuld I ride Denzell or Rusty in the upcoming show. Need opinions fast!!!

Well, I have a show in 6 days!!!! I dont know whether to ride Rusty or Denzell in it...

Ok, he's a bit of info

Rusty - Cool calm and collected, would NOT be fased by the show at all. He's a been there done that push button pony, lol... He works really nicely under saddle and while Im not doing the show for placings, I would probably do BETTER on him as I can get him collected nicely. Major Con though!! As an ex-pacer his trot is TERRIBLE!!! and it takes alot of effort on my behalf to get him into canter

Denzell - Never showed! This would be his first time ever at that sort of thing, and Im a little worried by how he'll handle it all! As for the riding.... well to be completely honest! Im fairly nervous when I ride him I am really quite scared actually but thats another story... and when Im nervous because its my first show and he's nervous because it's his first show.... no doubt it will end up in disaster!!! Plus I cant get him working on the bit alot of the time and he fights me alot and I've almost NEVER cantered him but this is why I bought him.... TO SHOW!!!

So yeah, thats just a little general bit of info.

I'll most likely be competing in hacking, but also want to do a couple of the jumping classes (Keep in mind I have yet to jump Denzell)...

Please help me decide.... I think yopu can probably all tell which way Im heading in my mind but I need your opinions! Thank you all!

I chose Rusy for a few reasons. I don't know if you've shown before, but if you haven't and Denzell hasn't that might not be a very good match-up. You might be nervous which in turn would make him the same (might equal an unpleasant outcome). Also.. jumping is a fever. You get there and it's like "omg I wanna do it" and if you haven't jumped Denzell yet, thats not a very good idea to do it at a show. Homework should be done at home.. NOT at a horse show ya know? Sure, Rusty might be tough to get into a trot.. but its better then being kind of nervous on the other thing. You'll have other things to worry about and riding your horse SHOULDN'T be one of them. =). Remember, JMO.

I'm with her! lol BUT I feel if you know someone who is a good rider and willing to that you should ask someone to show Denzell flat....just so he can get his feet wet in it and since you say you are nervous riding him it might be nice to have someone else do it at a show....

Yeah, my friend is also going but she has her own horse to ride! I might see if she's willing to ride him in just one class to see how he goes...

That might be a good plan....as long as she's a good rider and she can ride him then it would work.... You can then see how he will behave anyway

I would ride rusty! If you are more comfortable on him, you should just ride him. Wait until you are comfrotable on Denzell to show him!

Oh yeah, she's an EXCELLENT rider, so there is no doubt in my mind that she'd be able to handle him... I just think she'll be too busy.

I just... feel bad you know? Because this is why I bought Denzell so shouldn't I get used to riding him and get him working well.... Instead of wasting time on Rusty who Im either going to sell or lease out soon! *sigh*

I agree that you should not show Denzell but you could take him so he can see what is going on. It is all training
