Yearling LL assesses a horse's potential for western or english classes. Western prospects jog & lope while english prospects are expected to show off a trot & canter suitable for HUS classes. Because of the limited time available, you need to be sure that your horse is very responsive to cues including one to change direction. You need to spend enough time on each gait to allow the judges to make a decision but you should spend the most time on the gait where they really shine. Are you working with a trainer? If not, it might be a good idea to at least get a few lessons to tidy up your presentation. |

To answer your question about attire...If you are showing your horse english, wear suitable english attire (i.e. hunt cap, hunt coat, breeches, tall boats) If you are showing your horse western you would want western attire...hat, blazer...so on and so forth. Also, make sure that you have a presentable lunge line, doesn't have to be fancy, just clean and useable with no knots. Hope this helps and Good Luck!
