Showing Hunters !QUESTION!

I will be showing in Hunter classes, and I read that you MUST have a brown saddle when showing in Hunters, or you'll get D.Qed. Mine is a black Wintec, so should I use my mom's old leather saddle, or is it ok to use mine? (By the way, this isnt a rated or breed show, I dont know if that matters)

Do WHAT? Since when do you need a "brown" saddle.

I know you must have a "Conservative" colored saddle and clothing to show hunters. Brown or black are the colors of choice.

Which association are they using for rules? Where did you read you must have a Brown saddle?

Brown is the appropriate colour for hunt seat. As far as being dq'd, probably not. However, if it were to come down between you and another rider, that could very well be the deciding factor.

I subscribe to Horse Illustrated as well as Young Rider. YR had an article about what you should wear for yourself and your horse in different styles (hunters, jumpers, Halter, Western Pleasure) and it said that you will be eliminated if your saddle isnt brown. I have no idea where that came from, I never knew it was such a big deal as to whether or not your saddle is brown or black.

Well, I've never heard of that. If in doubt, contact the show manager. Does your mom's saddle fit you and the horse? If not, it's out of the question anyway.

I used to ride in it until I got mine for my birthday last year. It fits me and Cat, buuut, it's an old, OLD saddle. My mom has had it for over 20 years. It's all scratched up and sad looking.

My best saddle is 35 years old. Of course, it's in good condition for a saddle that old. How bad are the scratches? Are they noticable from a distance? Do they look better when it's freshly oiled?

I don't think the color of the saddle would matter one hoot, especially at a schooling show.

I rode in it once in the rain. (BIG trouble.) and when I put it back into our schooling locker, it got a big scratch on the seat. (about 5-6 inches) I dont think there are noticable ones that would make a big difference, just some small ones here and there.
