Angry Show Nerves!!! I can't get rid of them!

I was in a show today with callie(she's not my horse or a lesson horse, her owner lets me ride her) She was really good but I wasn't. In practice I am always right there with her and were great together. In shows I get nervous and I get really bad. It was a jumpers show and she refused 2 jumps. She was straight to them and should have jumped them but I was riding her in high jumpers and the jumps are scary. I think my being nervous is affecting her. When I'm out there I just am so nervous and time seems to go so fast like I have no ontrol. We ended up 5th in that class and 3rd in hunters. She was good I wasn't! What can I do to fix this???

Go through your 'run' previous to goin into each class. Just close your eyes and visualize precisely what you want/need to do. By concentrating in this manner you can actually feel like you have done the course once already and are now just 'redoing' the class. It will give you a better focus on what you have to do in your class/course.

I agree w/ CW. Just visualize what needs to be done and DON'T think about "what ifs" such as "what if I mess this up" "what if I do this wrong." Back in HS when I ran track my coach use to make us do this visualization exercise before every race. I also do it several times in my head as I'm heading to the alley when I barrel race.

I always heard bad nerves are b/c you either love what your doing, you're very competative, or both. Me, I'm both and my nerves will almost make me sick sometimes...lol.

Shownerves are horrible but they wil go away eventualy. I am use to being on stage as I was a gymnasts for 10 years and always competed. I now dont get nervous speaking infront of people and competing I have alot of confidence when doing. WHat you should think is what is the worst thing that could happen and then think of that is that really that bad that i need to be very worried about?
