Should i take my mare to professional auction?

I have a TB mare that I want to rehome asap. Before next spring. I want her a good home and have a price that i wont take less, unless everything is right. I want to take her to virgina sport horse auction. This fall (August 25th is deadline for entering) So that would give me some time to get her some show exsperiance. What are you opinions on this? also how could i make her look nicer? ect. I am going "hopefully" to the spring auction to check out the grounds.

This is only if shes not sold before then.

How could I make her more apealing?
Could i jump her?
or just flat only?
How long could i ride her for?
Anyone ever go there?
Whats should i take?
-video of her
-pictures of her
How much money should I take?
Is this worth it? (price wise or should I just keep trying to sell my mare)
If I go to spring sale could I take a flyer of Dezi?
Also anyone know anything else I should do to get prepared..

This is all on a IF bases.. I also want to know for future reference.
BTW Dezi isnt a pony

There is a Significant Fee for Entries Withdrawn from Sale
There shall be an upset price on any horse or pony offered:

Premier Upset fee: $1,000
Horse & Pony Upset fee: $250

PREMIER SESSION
Entry Fee: $300
Commission: 10% of Sale Price
No Sale Fee: $150 + Entry Fee
PONY SESSION
Entry Fees: 1-3 entries $175 each
4-6 entries: $150 each
7 or more entries $125 each
Commission: 10% of Sale Price
No Sale Fee: $100 + Entry Fee

EDIT: Title because i relised that putting auction without pro auction makes it sound bad so edited

Well when I think of auction I think really cheap horses and kill buyers. I looked at the auction website and it seems like a nice place.

Is is a place where horses fetch a premium price?

This is a professional auction I would never take her nor do i want her to ever end up at a "back yard" auction. This is for sport horses. Right now horses are going cheaper there but i would no sale her for anything less then what i want.. or again it was the right person. Also all horses must have current coggins/ health certificate and more to be in this auction thanks for your concern though.

Yes generally they fetch a better price
Notice it cost more to enter them

I will edit title

im sorry but i would only ever take a horse to auction if i was desperate an had no other option i think if you love your mare you ow it to her to sellas normal an find her the best home.. it would be nicer to put the price down an her get a great home than take her to auction where you have no idea where she will end up an you prob wont get decent money for her anyway

I am reading you list of things to do to make her more appealing and I am wondering just how much training she already has. Is she even worth $1000 ?

How old is she ? What does she look like? Previous training ? Show experience?

Those auctions are usually for horses that sell from $5000 +

Professional Auction puts on a great sale! I am friends with the guys who own it...

I think if you could have your mare working well under saddle and in show condition she would sell accordingly. Show condition meaning ready to show that day (because basically that is what you are doing only your judge is potiental buyers). You want to make sure she is clipped, braided, and shined!

They do give you the option to do demonstrations before the sale. I know usually they have "individual work" which they have a jump set up. I would just show her at her top potiential.

My only concern with you taking her is that if she brings your asking price and you sell then you can't back out if you don't like the people. You can take her through the ring and then no sale her but you may loose any buyers.

As far as asking price I can't help because I don't know the horse. You can look on the Professional Auction website and get past years sale results. I would look at horses her age and see how the prices compare.

Good Luck!

Just some things to think about ...

It's up to you whether an auction would be a good thing. With ANY auction, you have no say as to who buys your horse, where it goes or whether you would ever see it again. If that sits alright with you, then go for it.

However, if you go there with a minimum bid amount in mind and it doesn't sell for that, you are out fees and still have your horse to sell.

Just turning Nine, starting showing my first show with her is March 7th i have 3 shows that month.

I believe she can sell for $5000+ although my asking price is less. She has potential

I understand that but if i be too picky ill never sell her. I have become to picky about her buyers and have to relise that there wont be another me to take care of her.

Yes i understand that but alot of times your get offers as they leave the ring. A friend took a oldenburg filly no saled her at $6500 and sold her outside the ring for $7500.

My major concern is weather or not Its worth it. I know shes a thoroughbred and thats a hard sell. She got a lot going for her though. Nice conformation, proven broodmare, potential in any direction. We are just got a little more to learn before we start jumping. Which is fine. I will get videos and pictures once our 2ft of snow melts.

I am going to get a set of X rays also (planing on it) for the sale. Then again the X rays are a good idea period. Shes also sound. Very sport type horse.

Like i said this is only if she isnt sold by then. I am trying really hard to sell her before hand. If i were to take her to auction it would be Fall. That gives me alot of time to prepare.

thanks again for your input
