Here's how I wrap my horses' tails. If there are any questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to explain better

1) Detangle tail (either by brushing gently or finger-picking), and then take all of the long hairs and braid from the dock to the end of the longest hairs. Leave the shorter hairs out of the braid. Rubber band at the end.
(There's only one braid here, the shadow makes it look like there are two)

2) Loop the braided hair up through the top of the braid below the dock several times so that you end up with a 5-6 inch long "bundle" of hair.

3)Take about a foot of vetwrap through the same "hole" that you looped the hair through in step two. Leave that hanging down.

4) Wrap the vetwrap on the roll around the looped-up braid. The foot long section of vetwrap from step three should be wrapped in with the hair and you should still have about 6+ inches (when stretched) hanging down.

5) Double the excess vetwrap from step 3 up towards the top, continue wrapping including that. Make sure to stretch the part that you double up to the top so you have at least 3 or 4 inches hanging out of the top.

6) When you wrap up to the top, cut the vetwrap so that there is about 5 inches left (unwrapped).

7) Tie the ends together tightly.
