From everything I've learned this semester about caring for a performance horse, 10% balanced feed and a good quality hay is all they need. Cutting horses still don't utilize a lot of energy compared to Race Horses and Polo ponies, who's nutritional demand Doubles.

Start his training. If he starts to show a slight weight loss, bump his feed up a bit till he stops losing and maintains it.

Cutters usually don't use any fat stores because 99% of their work is all Anaerobic, so fat-added diets wont' do you much good.

Just make sure you feed a balanced diet, plenty of hay, and plenty of water. Also a trace mineral and a salt block is essential for performance horses. If you start working hard in the heat of the day, an electrolyte supplement wouldn't hurt either.

What kind of feed is she on? What's the protein percentage? How much does she get?

I have conflicting beliefs on supplements. Most horses don't need them. The cutters I know don't use any.

I know it shouldn't hurt your horse to feed them the supplement. So if you really want to spend teh money, then do it. Just follow the directions and make sure you aren't over-doing any vitamin or mineral from the feed you are feeding as well.

I'm not familiar with that brand of complete feed, but if she's on a complete feed, she doesn't need to be on sweet feed as well. 10% protein is what i'd recommend.

Why are you giving her a complete feed? Unless she has a problem eating hay, there's really no need for it.
