A light rug would be best, some horses get hot, what you use would depend on the weather and your horse.

Something breathable, such as a nylon or cotton sheet. Lycra's breathable but snags so easily if it brushes against a rough spot within the trailer.

I usually put a sleezy on (neck/shoulder one) and then a nylon sheet to keep the hair slicked down. Coton ones tend to make the hair poke up sometimes.

Here in OR it rains a lot, and my trailer is a stock type (open sides/slats). I use a fleece/quick drying rug to keep her warm when we travel in the winter--it's light and breathable enough that she's unlikely to get too hot, and it keeps her from getting wet and then chilled with the draft. That said, I would only travel with a sheet if the horse travels well--horses that bolt into/out of trailers or get fussy might get caught on something. My horse travels so well and is so quiet in the trailer that I can get in there and pull the sheet on/off if I have to (I've only had to twice--we got caught in a freak spring snow storm and I had to pull off her cotton sheet and replace it with the dry fleece--since then I only travel with the fleece).

It depends on the weather/horse, but I would think so. BTW, this is my 1500th post.

In the summer, I use one of these (Stable sheet)

In the winter on warmer days, one of these (Mid-weight stable blanket)

When it's REALLY cold, one of these (Heavyweight stable blanket)
