Horselover,

A lot of people try to make thier horses shiny on the outside, when in fact, if you get them right on the inside, the outside will take care of itself. To get a false shine there are a lot of good products on the market. Usually each owner has his/her favorite

I no that with the right diet and exercise a horses coat will gleam. I just wanted to know if anyone uses supplements to help thier horse to achieve that show ring shine? And if so what?

Adding a little flax seed (one or two cup fulls) to your horse's grain will add natural shine to a horses coat. The linseed oil, and other compounds found in the flax helps keep thier skin in good condition, relieving dander, and thereby reducing buildup on the horses coat.

Also by keeping up with a regular worming schedule can also increase the natural sheen of a horses coat, due to the horse gaining the nutrients that paristies 'siphon' from their food.

We dont use any supplements to make their coats shiney. A well balanced feed....that is high in nutrition works good for us, . We feed Strategy....and they geta good amount of hay....and all of their coats are nice! But Im sure you can find some spray or oil to put on them to enhance the shine!

No supplements here either. A good diet and elbow grease are really all you need to get a beautiful shine on your horse.

When I want my guy to gleam and look really slick I groom my butt off! wink He gets a good curry and stiff brushing, then gets the once over with a finishing brush. After that I take a rag and buff up his coat then if I really want to get a super glow going I put some showsheen. Needless to say after all that attention he's simply radiating .

Hey Stephie I know you can uae lemon juice and water together in a bottle and spray it over the coat. That usually makes it sleek and shiny. It also brings out the true color.
Love Always,

You can use Soybean Oil mixed in your grain... it's high in Protien and adds an AWESOME SHINE... I don't use it, but I know people that show that do, and I love the way their horses look... I just keep mine on a good Protien grain, lots of hay and I groom alot which helps bring the natural oils out in the coat.... Of course if I was doing SERIOUS showing with my older mare I would use flax seed oil or soybean oil, since both work wonders (I may do that this year anyways, just for the heck of it)
