Unhappy She's Too Young To Die!

I posted a thread a couple of minutes ago about my horse Stormy getting new shoes. Well, something else happened that day that didn't turn out good.

I went to go get Stormy out of the pasture for his appointment. Right behind the barn is a paddock before you get to the gate where Stormy is. The foal at my barn was out there because it is the safest place for her to be without getting hurt. She was standing in front of the gate as I approached her. I started calling to her and she didn't move. This was strange behavior for Tadpole (her nickname) because usually she'll run up to you and play with you. I walked over to her and started petting her and then something caught my eye. There was blood squirting out of her hind leg! I screamed for Kelly (the barn owner) but she didn't respond. I ran to get her and just then, the vet pulled up for Stormy. I led the bleeding foal inside the barn and showed Kelly. Kelly (who also works for the vet school) had the vet to stitch her up and bandage it. The only thing is, Kelly isn't the foal's owner. She does however have permission to treat if she can't get reach the owner. The owner, who happens to be a Mexican who can't speak English, left a false phone number so there was no way to reach him. The vet determined that Tadpole had cut her leg down to the joint. She is coming back on the 15th to see her again. She said that if something set in, she would have to be put down This really upsets me because not only is the foal only 5 months old, she never really had a childhood. She was weaned at only 1 month old. She was then bought by the Mexicans who thought she was a pony. Since they thought this, they tried to ride her. Kelly stopped them and told them how old she was. They pay for pasture board but Kelly keeps her in the stall so she doesn't die in the cold winter temperatures. Stormy has taken Tadpole under his wing. He thinks that she's his baby. Tadpole follows along the fence line with Stormy all day long and they love each other.

Sorry this was so long but I really love Tadpole and so does Stormy and I really don't want her to be put down. Please pray for her. She needs all the help she can get.

I am so sad! I love her so much! I just thought I'd add that when Kelly did get in touch with the owner, he laughed. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT FOOL? She could die and he's laughing?! I could hurt someone right now!

Thank you so much! Her owners think that she is going to grow up to be a race horse because she is part Thoroughbred. How stupid.

How awful. THey thought that a foal was a pony?! People like that should not own horses, or probably any other animal. At least they still pay for the board. But, his he going to pay for the vet bill? I could see this getting really ugly. Poor foal.

Omg....I wonder how much $$ they want for her....if they would sell her I hope soomeone around there buys her from them...so she doesn't have to go through that anymore...but maybe if she has to spend a life like that...putting her down wouldn't be the worst thing...not that i want that

I don't know if they are going to pay Kelly back or not but she had to pay the vet. There was no way she was going to let Tadpole go without treatment until she got a hold of the owners. They really shouldn't have a horse, especially a foal.

The only reason they are like that is not because they are cruel but because they simply lack the knowledge that they so desperately need. I think that they really love her but they don't know how to take care of a foal. After all, they bought her because they thought she was a pony. I figure that they will get tired of not being able to ride and sell her soon.
