| Senior Member+ | after the first couple of times it takes no time at all to do it ... I can do mine in about five minutes NOW !! THe first time took forever.. like half hour or so... the trick is to make sure you secure the ends as you do the wraps I do mine so I can unsecure them when I braid and I braid past the hair... I also only feed one piece back though the tail.. I modified it

| Senior Member+ | I love sheeting, but I got pretty good at it time wise, but my end pieces are always too short to sew back through so I end up using bailing twine lol. Sly and Cody got Pooh Bear sheets last time

| Senior Member+ | OK, i think, as I need to go tot he store anyway, I will buy a sheet and give it a go. I am thinking if I leave the strips ends long enough, they will make for good fly swatters...unlike the lycra bag.

So now that the weather is heating up and fly season is in session, is this still ok to do? Would you just leave really long ends after you re- threaded it through to make sure they can still swap the flies? Ha Ha ..I am picturing Duke with one designed like a wind sock... I dunno, could be dangerous...kinda like that one time he got a long tangle of hay stuck in the corner of his mouth....he ran so fast! Never thought I would see him run from hay, he probably thought it was gonna eat him! | |

| Full Member | I never head of the sheet method. My trainer and I use old pantyhose. You cut off the toe and feed a stand threw each leg and the third strand if free and braid it. Weave the braid back threw and put a sock with 4 slits on the top part over it and tie the strips of sock in knots by the base of the tail to hold it on. |

| Senior Member+ | awsome!!! This seems much more secure than a tail bag, lol! I'm gonna go find some cheap sheets from Wal*Mart tonight - Can I use the same strips of sheet? maybe just wash them and reuse them once or twice and then move on to new strips of sheet? Just to save myself from buying new sheets...lol

| Senior Moderator | If you execute it correctly, you end up with "tassles" on the ends that give them plenty of fly protection. I actually think it works even better than the plain ol' tail. As for reusing sheets - I always do. I just take them home and wash them and reuse them until they are so stringy that they are a pain to put on. That's the only bad thing about washing them - they tend to unravel. I suppose that if you were so inclined you could just sew the edges, they would probably last longer that way. As far as being more secure than a tail bag, they are for sure. I never got a tail bag to last more than 2 days, I can keep the sheets in for months.

| Senior Member+ | I stick mine in a the sink with Dawn Dish Soap and hand wash and hang to dry .. they dont' get as clean but they last longer ... I hate cutting those strips !!! Kills your hands and fingers !! I hand wash them well and let them dry al natural and they are good to go in about 24 hours which I like to leave mine off a few days when I take them down anyway!! I have never had anything work so well.. my "pasture" has a lot of small saplings that tear the tail out I have never had a tail get below the hocks because of this and now I have nice pretty full LONG tails
