Well if you are located where it's snowy and cold.. maybe it's best to leave im with this fuzz.. it grew like that to keep him warm. But if he's getting sweaty, it's best to clip him strategically to make sure he doesn't get a chill when you work him. If this is the case, you can clip his chest, or wherever he gets sweaty. Otherwise, I would suggest leaving it. On the other hand, if you are somewhere not so cold, you could body clip him.

Humm my tb mare is shedding like crazy, but my mini gelding is holding on to his hair for dear life....you could put you horse under lights starting late in the afternoon,(before it starts getting dark) to trick his body into thinking it's spring....If you have a barn, and turnout blanket you could body clip him, and get rid of the fuzzy coat now...Cathy

I keep my horse under lights in her stall every night, they turn on about 4:30 and turn off about 8, and then come on again around 5 AM and turn off when its light and she is shedding like crazy now. Normally she doesn't shed until May!

dont they start shedding automatically when it starts getting warm. Then I shart helping it along with brushing. But I did buy a 40 dollar comb to use on my Blue Heeler that I am going to try out when it warms up on the horses at my barn. It is guarenteed to work on the dogs so I am willing to give it a shot on what ever needs it......maybe even my husband if need be. ha ha

When i do work him he does get a sweat, And its been getting pretty hot during the day, kinda chilly at nihgt but not so bad, where i live there is no such thing as snow. Im in the hot desert in AZ haha. But He is blanketed everyday, he don't sweat when the blankets on him, its only when i work him, but if it is real hot which we had 2 days like that ill take it off and put it back on at night.

Horses shed when they daylight lasts longer. It really all has to do with photoperiod(how much daylight).

I recommend the furminator! And a good curry comb with lots of elbow grease!

a trick that ive seen used before is to blanket him for a couple of days

then get a curry comb, shedding blade and a stiff brush-- be prepared to work your triceps and biceps
