Wink She wanted a horse with endurance and she got it

When we were looking for a horse, my mom told Sharon her list of what she wanted in a horse and one was good endurance. Well, I just wanted to comment on my day. I'll just start at the beginning because a LOT happened today, lol. Friday night me and about 6 or 7 other people camped out at a horse park that we trail ride a lot. We had to keep him in the trailer overnight because he can untie himself Sharon and her husband slept in the gooseneck past of the trailer and all night long Tobey was pacing and pawing in the trailer. I heard some interesting comments like "Were gonna have horse for breakfast!!" They made some make-shift hobbles for his front feet with a leadrope and in three hours he got them off. Sharon was telling me to work him HARD so I did. This was Tobey's first time at that park and so he was excited and very full of himself. The first trail ride was like two hours long and on some of the harder trails. There were a few long straight stretches that we galloped on, Tobey was always in front It was so much fun though, it felt like I was flying and it wasn't even him full out, I was holding him back a lot, but I wanted to stay in control and still be able to stop him. There were a lot of hills that we trotted and cantered up. We went back and let them rest for a little while and we took a break also. I tacked him back up and we went on another trail ride. He seemed tired, but he wasn't. There was a jumping course set up with some small crossrails and we went over that a few times. He's really a very nice jumper when he wants to be. After that there was another long straight stretch that we cantered. Actually we trotted while everyone else cantered since he's got such a fast trot. Then we ran up some more hills and went onto the hardest trail in the park. He acted really worn out, head down slow walk, but within a half hour of being tied he went back to pacing and pawing, wanting food. Later when I rode him bareback up and down some trails I could feel his energy and knew he wanted to run. When we got back and it was feeding time, well tell me if anyone has seen a horse that can make his brain and feet do this. He would rear up and pound his feet in the food dish and pull them out and he would rear up and pound his feet on the stall door I mean what other horse can do that? Sharon was like, "Bridle your monster and MAKE HIM TIRED!!" My mom called and Sharon told her to come in two hours while I tried to tire my horse. So Jax, my friend at the barn, and I tag teamed and worked with Tobey. We did an extended trot for 2 hours with him! We each rode for about a half hour and the other got some watermellon. Then we got off and free lunged him at an extended trot for another hour about. He was acting all tired and worn out, for once, lol, and sweaty. Lol, I'm such a loser, when we would switch riders, I would ride up to the mounting block and I would get off on the left and she would get on on the right, or vice versa and getting off I got my shirt stuff on the horn I was stuck on the horn i couldn't move! I'm so glad Tobey didn't decide to take off, or I would have been in trouble! Jax got a bucket and I got on the bucket and unstuck my shirt. I felt really bad watching him work that hard, but he needs it BAD! I walked him then hosed him off. Within about a half hour he was back to his old self. Walking around in a circle and refusing to let me hose him. I rarely explode at my horse, but when I do it means that I got REALLY P***ed at him. And I did and Jax came over and was like, "he finally p***ed you off?" and held him for me while I finished hosing him down. While I hosed off my head Jax took him back to his stall, which he like dragged her in, he got in trouble for that. Ok does this sound like a horse who has done hard work all day? I mean he trotted for two hours after trail riding for like 3 or 4 and he still had energy! And for all you morgan or morgan X owners, does this sound like normal behavior? LOL, Tobey suprises me more and more everytime I see him. I'm gonna have fun with him Oh and if anyone knows the cure for pawing, check the training section cause I'm making a thread about it

We used to have a morgan that had more energy than any horse i have ever seen. He did not misbehave but when you got on him he was ready to go and could go all day long if you wanted him to.

If he has that much energy, use him for competitive and endurance riding....you can put him on a picket line, and use bull snaps so he cannot get untied, he will probably settle down after a couple hard rides, and enjoy standing tied, with hay and water.. Cathy

Yeah, he really doesn't misbehave, he's just like 3 horses in one! Sharon said I should ride him in competitive trail riding and that I should start things like team penning and cutting with him

Do you feed him grain? If so, I recommend either cutting him back, or off completely.

Hehe...Sounds like my mare! LOL

I rode 3.3 miles to a show, rode around at the show, did my flat classes, my jumping classes, my barrel class(Yes, I did the barrels in my english outfit and saddle LOL) then I rode the 3.3 miles back...And she still wanted to go!!

Gotta love them endurance horses hehe
