Most people don't like to shave because of the flies. I shave because of the Gnats that go in their and lay eggs. It only happened with furry ears. I find it more annoying when I find gnats in them than flys. If you don't want flys, put flyspray on it.

I would only clip the inside of the ears if you was going to show. If your not showing you can always tidy up the outside of the ear and clip any hair that is sticking out.

One of my TAFE instructors who is a vet was telling us that it was fine to clip inside the ear as long as you protect the ear cannal from the hair and dirt falling into it.
Her solution?
Place some cotton wool into the toe of a stocking (hoseiry? I have no idea what you call it over there). Leave the leg on the stocking and push down into the ear with the leg sticking out.
This stops the hair and dirt from getting into the cannal and is very easy to remove when you need to.

She stressed upon us to always use this method when clipping out ears (I don't personally clip out), because 90% of ear problems she treats as a vet are caused from debris falling into the cannal during clipping.

I shave the ears only in the spring and summer. They need the fur for the cold weather I think. Personally, I hate the ear hair but I keep it in during cold weather.

You mostly shave the inside of a horses ears for competition for in the spring or summer time. But I only clip Monty's because in the summer time they are more prone to bug bites and infections if the hair isn't their to proctect them.

My horses ears are shaved, but only because I show. I use a fly mask with ears, and fly spray. If I do not show my horse, I squeeze the ear together, and clip only what sticks out.
