Exclamation ShArE YeR PoEmS-whether you wrote them er not!

Hi Everybody. I just wanted to do sumtin fun and have everyone write a poem about horses or thier horse.
It doesnt have to belong to you,you can just now write it,or you could of already had one written.
Im gonna find a poem a written a long time ago but right now heres a poem that doesnt belong to me:
-----------------------------------------
A PONYS DREAM
by Cherry Hill

Im walking through a meadow
The grass is green and tall
I plan on grazing all day long
but hear a friendly call.

"Diamond,Diamond,come to me"
The voice sounds by the gate
"youd better stop munching
we have to watch yer wieght"

My human friend then halters me
And leads me to my stall
I get a thorough grooming
While tied safely to the wall.

My hooves are cleaned of mud and stones
My chest and belly brushed
My mane and tail are fingered through
The grooming is not rushed.

Next a saddle and a pad
Are placed upon my back
Were getting ready for a ride
With safe and tidy tack.

We start out rather slowly
So my muscles can warm up
By the time were out an hour
Im frisky as a pup.

We take our time when walking home
I sigh and stretch my back
The trail ride felt good to me
I like my fitted tack.

Again im groomed and cared for well
My every need is met
Its when im hugged around my neck
My humans eyes get wet.

Am I dreaming or is this real?
Are you my human friend?
You are?! Thats great! A dream come true.
May our friendship never end.
------------------------------------------
Arabian Legend

And God took a handful of SouthWind
And from it formed the horse,
Saying, "I create thee oh arabian.
To thy forelock I bind victory in battle.
On they back I set a rich spoil,
And a treasure in thy loins.
I establish thee as one of the glories of the earth.
I give thee flight without wings".

For a time the Arabian ran wild in the desert.
Only the strongest and most intelligent,
The swiftest and the most disciplined survived.
And the story goes:
To Ishmael,son of Abraham,
God made a gift of the Arabian horse
And Ishmael was the first to tame and ride him.
And from that time on the fate of the Arabian horse would be woven into the history of the western world.
--------------------------------------
Hope you enjoyed! And get writin!

I wrote this in honor of a horse a friend told me about. She rescued him from a horse rescue in Indiana. He made it and is happy now, sadly, many others do not make it.

He worked so hard,
Day after Day
The pats and treats,
Were his daily pay,

It was always the same,
But with different riders,
Round and Round in circles,
Sometimes the jumps got higher

He was always so sweet
Always so willing
But the constant repetition,
Slowly was killing

His spirit was gone,
He no longer cared,
His ears always pinned back,
His teeth always bared

No more pats and treats,
No more kind words,
All the riders were afraid of him,
No longer his herd

"We'll have to sell him,"
The trainer once said
They sent him to an auction
He would soon be dead

He was packed in the trailer
His eyes rimmed with white
No food or water
All throughout the night

He'd been sold for meat,
He gets no remorse,
So this is what he gets,
For being a great school horse?

Horses:
Eyes that glow in even the darkest nights-
Ears that can hear sounds from distances afar-
Shiny noses that can smell carrots and other delights-
Smooth legs that gleam like tar-
Mane and tails that sparkle like the armor of a knight-
Hooves that dance the waltz of Russia's last Czar-
Colorful coats that glitter, and a body that shines, it truly must be love at first sight-

Heres one that i found at Last Chance Ranch ...... www.lastchanceranch.org "One Chance in a Million"

It happened so sudden, 12 years in my past,
For the rest of my life the injury would last.
The cars hit head-on, not a chance to slow down,
The next I remember, I lay on the ground.
My hip joint was crushed beyond all repair.
"You're too young to replace it," Doc said with a stare,
"You will walk again, but never will run."
These words hit me hard like a shot from a gun.

Ten years came and went, the pain more severe.
I said to my wife, "Time to replace it is here."
When the surgery was over, Doc said to my wife,
"He can't ride a horse for the rest of his life."
We own our own farm with a full riding stable,
So horses and riding put food on our table.
I could sell horses and tack, and some money I'd make,
But to ride one myself was a risk I can't take.

And then it did happen, one night at the sale,
As I stood selling halters inside of the rail.
My wife came up to me with that look in her eye.
She said, "There's a horse out back ready to die."
As I walked to the killer pen and looked over the fence,
There stood a starved gelding whose frame was immense.
His eyes were three inches sunk back in his head;
If he were lying down, you would have sworn he was dead.
He stood sixteen-one, weighed about four and a quarter,
His hair was three inches and not one-half shorter.
A skeleton with hide stood before my own eyes.
If he walked through the ring, it would be a surprise.

As the barn door slid open and they led him on in,
The auctioneer said, "Two hundred is where we'll begin."
The kill buyer said, "Two-oh-five's all I'll give."
I said, "I'll give two-ten just to see if he'll live."
The bids then quit coming, not a sound from the crowd,
The next word was "Sold" he said very loud.
As the trailer backed up to the wood loading gate,
I said, "Let's get him home before it's too late."
He had to have help to step up to the floor,
But we got him in and then closed the door.
As I drove home that night, I looked back at a glance
And said, "If he lives, we'll call him Last Chance."

Well, we made the trip home, and he lived through the night.
When the vet came next morning, he said, “What a sight.”
We floated his teeth and trimmed all his feet,
Gave him wormer and thiamin and a little to eat.
My vet said his heart was as strong as a drum,
If we brought him along slowly the rest may just come.
Well, his weight starting coming and his health soon returned.
He showed us his love he must have thought that we earned.
He would whinny and nicker as I walked to the shed,
As if to say, "Thanks, 'cause of you, I'm not dead."
He would stroll the whole place without being penned,
He'd come when I call, just like man's best friend.

Three months had gone by since the night of the sale,
My wife had him tied on our old hitchin' rail.
I asked her, 'What's up?" as I just came outside.
She said, "It's time to see if he'll ride."
She threw on the blanket, saddle, bridle and said,
"The worst that could happen, I'll get tossed on my head."
As her seat hit the leather, he stood like a rock.
With a tap of her heels, he started to walk.
He reined to the left and he reined to the right,
The bit in his mouth he sure didn't fight.
He did what she asked without second thought.
She cantered him on and not once he fought.
When she returned from the ride with a tear in her eye,
She said, "He's the one, would you like to try?"
I thought to myself as I stood at his side,
If this giant's that gentle, why not take a ride?
It had been a long time, but the look on his face,
Said, "Hop on, my good friend, let's ride 'round this place."
We rode round the yard, then out through the gate,
This giant and me, it must have been fate.

He gave me back part of my life that I lost,
Knew then I'd keep him, no matter what cost.
I've been offered two-thousand, and once even three,
But no money on earth would buy him from me.
You see, we share something special, this gelding and me,
A chance to start over, a chance to be free.
And when the day comes that his heart beats no more,
I'll bury my friend just beyond my back door.
And over his grave I'll post a big sign,
"Here lies Last Chance, a true friend of mine."

*blush*

The two I wrote were written when I was 13, 14; I've always thought about reworking the first but eh..I'm lazy.

'The Charger'
Cannons trumpet their belligerent warning,
Ripping through the crisp, cool morning air like thunder
and Men's cries of pain, terror, thrill, and rage
Drown out all other thoughts in horror.
The cold steel peirces and obediently I sway,
Strike out at those willing to destroy you
Whirl and rear, sheilding you from these monstrosities
who wish you only death.
I bear you, not understanding the need for this
genocide
that you must force on one another but
I am only a mere beast, an animal, and you are a God.
So I listen, eyes rolling, legs churning- run!
Get you out of this place that reeks of destruction,
But you only bring us back into the stench.
My blood-stained hooves awaken clouds of angry filth
that stifles my breath and blinds me in retaliation,
The wounded and dying that fall by your sword and my own innocent fury
now weep and beg for death by my feet, awaiting release.
I don't understand, don't understand, but you
Ask me to stay, and I must do as I am bidden, guided only by your
kind words of comfort tainted with fear and anguish,
trembling hand asking me to trust, to fear nothing.
And through the tangible screams an attacker lurches
his eyes wild with fear and an awareness of his own impending death.
And for your sake I rise, because you ask it, I protect you and he falls.
I don't understand what I've done...
A sharp searing pain ripping through me brings forth a shrill scream,
a thin sliver of an arrow sends me to the ground
among these fallen men of honor, and you
roll out of the way, unflinching even in this purgatory.
Tortorous, wrenching, excruciating and still I do not understand,
but I stayed, I endured this raging brutality only
Because you asked it of me.
And now you're here, salty wet warmth on your scent,
Removing my bridle and burying your face in my mane
that once flowed like a banner when I ran free.
As tears mingle with blood, death looms ever nearer on
Marching feet and voices singing of victory.
It approaches for you my master, and for me.
I don't understand this thing you call war,
but here I lie bleeding, darkness closing in around me while your tears
gleam brighter than the sullied sword that hangs limp in your hand.
I don't understand, but I have realized
that you don't either.

"For the Jughead"
Friendship, Care, Obedience, Trust
Nothing is wrong, just fair.
He cares not if you kick him
too hard
Jerk on his Bit, or flop on
his back.
Yell harsh words when he
doesn't understand.
He doesn't know- he's just a
Horse, after all.
All he asks of you is
Acceptance and approval.
It isn't much to ask from
he who understands
our pain, our sorrow, our
Imperfection.
All is well in his mind,
but they called him mockingly
A Jughead.

Yay! A good one- this one was written by Will H. Olgilvie

The hooves of the horses!- Oh!
bewitching and sweet
is the music earth steals
from their iron-shod feet.
No whisper of lover
nor trilling of bird
can stir me
as hooves of the horses
have stirred...
