Shakey front legs

I'm checking out a mistreated, underweight, 14 yr old cart mare. Her front legs shake, tremble constantly, at all times. At first thought it was fear related when she freaked seeing my camel the first time but it's chronic. He hooves are very worn, I feel very tight tendons in the front of her front legs, and one front leg is definetly not quite the right shape. My farrier claims she doesn't have laminitis, she takes tiny little perky steps, pulls a cart like a bulldog, really digs in to do it, has a very short stride, is a very small mare. What do you think, any ever see front legs shake constantly (without a rider too.) She doesn't seem to have an issue with riding, is always anxious to go and is spirited, just sosoooooo rundown and scrawny. TIA

Navicular? Something is DEFINITELY wrong with her, you should see if a vet can help you!

It could be lots of problems causing her to do that... have your vet look at her... maybee take some x-rays... Alot of times shaking has more to do with the legs.. not always the feet.. But defintaly have booth looked at.

Getting X-rays would be an excellent start as well as an over all exam. What did your mare pull? what is her breed if you know? I noticed you aren't from this neck of the woods!

She's a mish mash of all sorts of things, with some arabian thrown in as are most of the mixed horse in my are (Israel, Middle East of the world,), totally nothing special, but she's got a cute face and the kids like her. Actually I've not paid for her and I'm not anxious to put out money on her. My farrier claims her legs are fine and she just needs to be shoed to pull the 4 wheel cart she'll be working. But shaking legs are shaking legs and the fact that her front tendons are pulled as tight as an archery bow is a fact so I just wonder if this is a chronic issue that will flare into major issues, then I don't want to get into it and will chose a more sound horse.

Well, unfortunatley, without dumping money into her, you will prob never know. Either put some into her now, or you will prob double what you put into her later on down the line. Could be she needs some serious attention to her feet, could be any number of things. If you feel she is worth it, get some x-rays done, and go from there. IF not, try and find antoher horse without the problems

Well I did get a vet to look at her since he had to come see my friend's freshly gelded arabian 5 yr old who decide to kick down a metal gate to get to the females out in field and speared his used to be perfect redbrown leg with white stocking and needed stitches etc.

In short, after having been worked so long without shoes, some of her cartilage had forged together becoming bone like rendering her with little flexablility. Might be painful might not, but I've decided to keep on looking for one healthier horse. ATB All, FC
