My Trakehner mare always ovulates early afternoon.

The Equine Reproduction website has a number of good articles for timing insemination.

Now this could very well be an isolated case and something just didn't work out. I haven't heard back from the breeder but I am sure I will by tomorrow.

I agree that I shouldn't have to cover the cost of the next shipment or the shipping cost, this was not our fault!
I hope this is just an isolated case to!! I am sure it is. And I am sure they wont make you pay the fees. I cant wait to here what they say about the semen.

Thanks I read the articles on that site to The quote I put is from another equine repro site, they were just saying most mares not all ovulated between those times. Gosh I hope my mare ovuated 10 and 4am, it would have been perfect for her sperm

If it was a bad shipment I don't know how they can make you pay for another one. Now if it was because of not catching the mare in time then that wouldn't be their fault. But a note or call from the vet should be good enough. I would call the stallion owner myself and talk to them.

Mare, they can make you pay for another shipment but the collection fee should be waived depending on the contract. Also, if a report was sent with the semen as to the motility, extender, volume, and it was properly packaged, then a claim would have to be filed for damaged goods with the carrier.

She isn't charging for a 2nd shipment or the shipping fees! This lady really is very nice to work with! So we shall try again in a few weeks!

You must wait at least 5 days after ovulation for prostaglandin to be effective. And, average time from giving the shot to ovulation is 9.5 days. Just a timeline for you to be aware of.

Hope that helps!

Yes Kathy, I am aware of that. The point of it that I was making is that AFTER the shot was given, 3-4 days later she should start coming back into heat, not that you gave the shot 3-4 days after ovulation.

Tina, that's great that she's footing the bill for the 2nd shipment. Some stallion owners are good to deal with
